next to no honeycomb specific apps, other than google's

ipad had a bunch lined up at release, google has a few too, just not as many.

Why does it have to be HoneyComb specific? I am using Android market apps on my nook color tablet, no problems.

the article said:
In terms of technical specifications, the Xoom is heavier, but it has a better screen.

Horse sh*t, the Xoom display looks like crap compared to the iPad.

Or for $200-$250 I can buy a Nook Color, root it, slap in a 32GB SD card for $50-$60 and be able to do everything the Xoom and iPad2 can do, just not have as flashy a device.

It's like saying why bother playing StarCraft II when StarCraft works just fine.

No, sir... there's just that much of a difference.

Should I start a thread with how many ways the Xoom could cost more than the iPad?

Nope because another thread will be started with how many ways a XOOM could cost more than the iPad. And there won't be a winner, but there will be many conflicts.

Oh, and it's all capitals. XOOM. Weird naming convention, but at least easier to get than iPad.

800-500=300

(0.008*100000)-(0.005*100000)=300

I don't know why people try to argue it, the Xoom is overpriced. The cost of entry for the iPad is MUCH lower than the cost of entry for the Xoom. I don't see what the argument is.

The argument? The XOOM is on the same price level as the iPad, and it has better hardware. And, and... it's not Apple.

I think I'm rubbing off of commenting on Engadget...

Seriously, though, some arguments are just so futile it's like sarcasm... only funnier.

$800 min vs $500 min = not same price level. I can't afford a $800 XOOM but I can afford a $500 ipad2

@$800 I'll spend the extra $200 to get an 11" MBA.

He just hates Apple, and for people like that, no iPad will ever be good enough.

As much as Apple has a religious following of supporters, it also has a religious following of haters.

That's just the truth. No more, no less. You'll be amazed at how some people simply hate anything Apple makes regardless of what it is or how it's priced.

This is truth. I used to hate Apple but then, on a bet, I bought a 13" MBP and had to eat crow...

There's haters for everything. People hate Android, Microsoft, Sony, etc for whatever reasons. Apple isn't special on the hate.

The Xoom is a buggy POS, which Motorola may or may not fix. As it stands, it's not stable at all and has next to no apps available for it. In it's current state it would have to be $299 for me to even think about wanting one.

Moto dropped the ball BIG TIME here.

Nonetheless, I plan on getting the WiFi Xoom in the near future, and only a free Ipad2 might make me consider it as an option.

Fair to say it's also amazing that all apple fans think that @ $500 everybody will want an ipad, without taking into consideration that the current UI is an absolute deal-breaker for some of us. Lighter, faster, thinner means nothing to me if the functionality is not what I need it to be.

If by "next to no apps" you mean 150,000 apps, then yeah.

A lot of the 150k apps are wallpapers and fart apps where the interface is just a text list wooohoooo there you go. No AAA apps, right now the only real game is angry birds which runs like crap on a lot of phones because of ads so sad i guess if you enjoy android just because you hate google well there is a valid reason.

Sales figures in a few months will show who wins that battle...

By your logic the iPad2 is also overpriced because the iPad1 is cheaper. If the spec is so irrelevant to you then the nook color is the best tablet on the market right now because it's only $200.

While you are correct it seems that at least as many people are oblivious to the fact that the iPad is overpriced too when looked at from an honest perspective. From a business perspective Moto has stated they are shooting to sell 800K units in the first three months of availability. To me, it is likely priced fairly well for that goal given what the Galaxy has been doing for numbers(another horribly overpriced part).

Is the Nook actually comparable to the original iPad? Screen size difference aside, I thought that the Nook's CPU was slower and it had less RAM.

Actually, the Nook has 512MB of RAM compared to the original iPad's 256. Also, the Nook's Arm A8 can easily be OCed to 1.1GHz, while iPad's Apple A4 runs @1GHz. Of course, you can also OC an iPad.
