It's not a matter of disrespect, it's a matter of "What difference does it make?" and "Why does it matter?"

Well, this takes rationalizing to a level I had not expected.

Yep. Entitlement mentality is deep rooted and hard to get rid of once you have it.

:tard;

Indeed. I'm almost tempted to "borrow" Injury's account for awhile. ;)

YES, I FACKING KNOW THAT. The point isn't "Who's shit it is" the point is that it's FREAKING RIDICULOUS.

in YOUR OPINION. I think it's FREAKING RIDICULOUS that you have no respect for other people's shit

Random CAPITALIZATION.

You're putting words into my mouth and you're dead wrong. It's not a matter of disrespect for "other people's shit", it's a matter of understanding that I learned in kindergarten how to share and that using something first bears no relevance on something like a crockpot. It's not a matter of disrespect, it's a matter of "What difference does it make?" and "Why does it matter?"

It might not matter to you, but it might matter to hers. How do you know? Do you have some type of fucking ALL SEEING EYE!? IT MATTERS BECAUSE IT'S NOT YOUR SHIT.

You saying

The idea is to cook our roast, clean the crock pot and put it back in the box so she is never the wiser.

Implies that you KNOW it's wrong. Or else, why even bother fucking cleaning it and putting it back in the box?

Except I didn't say that, genious. Are you under the impression that I'm the OP or something? 'Cause that's the only way you could possibly be taking me so far out of context.

Where are you guys getting that I feel entitled from? You're all just making shit up to the point where it doesn't even make sense any more.

All I'm saying is that I think the whole concept of not using something for the SOLE SAKE of someone being the first to use it is a damn waste and a stupid concept. How is that entitlement? NOWHERE does that imply that I think I should be allowed to do whatever the hell I want. NOWHERE.

Gawd... i would hate to live with some of you guys, no not the ones who touch other peoples stuff the lame boring complaining ones. OP, ive done waaaaay worse things to roommates before lol, seriously there aint nothin wrong with using her pot.

This onetime in a flat of 4, two of my roommates went out, so me and the other guy barracaded the door with EVERYTHING we could find, kitchen table, chairs, construction girder + cones i brought home after nights out. Took them a longass time to get back in. When they did we blamed it on the janitor and they were suspicious but partially believed it. Good times good times :) Thats one of the tamer things thats been done. Its all in good fun though :D

Sure it's dumb, but it's her wishes and her stuff.

Women are funny when it comes to sentiment and emotions. She probably wanted to use it to make her first meal in it for her man, and now that experience/memory is ruined and can never be brought back.

We got our crock pot for $12. It's a roomate, I don't understand what the secret is? Just tell her.

My point sucks? My point is this: you don't have the right to use someone else's property without permission. It has nothing to do with whether the crockpot will be damaged or "tainted" or anything else. And the fact she already stated she wanted to be the first one to use it isn't even the main point. It's purely about respecting other people's property. Whether anyone else feels it's a waste to leave it in the box is meaningless.

And the fact that so few posters see anything wrong with using it without permission is surprising to me. Bunch of rationalizing just to excuse inappropriate behavior and a lack of respect.

I seriously doubt all the same people would be fine with people using any of their stuff without permission. And don't bother saying that "it's not the same" because it is the same. You don't take other people's stuff without permission, period, end of story.

AFAIC, if I let you use my stuff then I should be allowed to use your's, right? I get the impression based on the way things were told that the people in this house/apartment/whatever share their equipment. I bet one of them has a TV in the main room and everyone watches it. I bet the same goes for tables, couches, dishes, flatware, etc. If it was a matter of "We all have our own separate stuff and nobody uses each others" then I don't think he would have even touched it. So what's the big freaking deal? If she wants to bitch about "being the first to use it" then maybe she should act like she actually gives a damn about it.

The reason I don't find anything wrong with this is that I'm not an uptight, whiny, selfish, IDIOT that thinks being the first to use something bears any significance to the status of the product. The only person that would even make a big deal out of it shouldn't even be in a living situation with other people because they are an ASS and a CRYBABY.

Wow, you sound more and more like a douche with every post. It's HER SHIT. It doesn't matter what the FUCK she wants to do with it.

YES, I FACKING KNOW THAT. The point isn't "Who's shit it is" the point is that it's FREAKING RIDICULOUS.

OP, you're an ass. Your roomate's request may or may not be stupid, but it's her property and you have no right to touch it. Equate her request with her saying "you may not use my crockpot". She could say you're only allowed to cook rhinosaurus meat in the crockpot for all it matters and you should respect it because it's her property. It would be stupid and ridiculous, but you not respecting her property is even more stupid and ridiculous.

I guess that sort of thing relies on you having roommates who don't mind practical jokes. Me, I don't care for the kind of "joke" whose sole purpose is to inconvenience someone else.
