How do you justify taking her crockpot when she already told you she wanted to be the first to use it? It's HERS. Yeah, it seems trivial. Yeah, you're not going to damage it. But it's not yours.
You have to respect her property whether she's using it to your satisfaction or not.

I see your point... but your point sucks. I mean, what good is the damn thing sitting in a box? Is there some sort of special taste added to a food when you cook something in it for the first time? No.
If they live in an environment where they share things, what, exactly, is the difference?
Well it's a dick move if she's religious, as she would then need to buy a new crockpot (yeah I know it sounds silly but that's the way it is.) If she's vegan for health reasons or because it's "hip, cool, enviro-friendly" or whatever, then she really shouldn't care.Originally posted by: illusion88
The kicker is, she is vegan.
what the? :laugh:Originally posted by: markgm
Use it as a toilet tomorrow, and then clean it and box it up.

Exactly. Time matters. Heat doesn't.Originally posted by: moshquerade

haha that's an awesome idea 🙂. But you could've bought your own... ah well, hehehe. I'm a carnivore myself as well. I probably would've done the same since vegans don't really strike me as ideal. Why go against your natural foods?
I don't really want to knock vegans, but I just do not believe in such a lifestyle. Vegetarian is totally fine. Vegan? Screw it...cook that meat in that pot!

It depends on how hardcore they are. Some of them won't eat anywhere that serves meat.
Some of them don't eat anything that casts a shadow.

My point sucks? My point is this: you don't have the right to use someone else's property without permission. It has nothing to do with whether the crockpot will be damaged or "tainted" or anything else. And the fact she already stated she wanted to be the first one to use it isn't even the main point. It's purely about respecting other people's property. Whether anyone else feels it's a waste to leave it in the box is meaningless.
And the fact that so few posters see anything wrong with using it without permission is surprising to me. Bunch of rationalizing just to excuse inappropriate behavior and a lack of respect.
I seriously doubt all the same people would be fine with people using any of their stuff without permission. And don't bother saying that "it's not the same" because it is the same. You don't take other people's stuff without permission, period, end of story.

And it was a Xmas present...I'd be pissed. The two of you need to make it up to her with something special. Or tell her a burglar broke in and made dinner with her pot and forced you to eat it.

Correction, heat matters, but temperature does not. You typically won't cook much above 300F. What's more important is even heat distribution throughout the pot so everything cooks evenly, without hot spots/cold spots.Originally posted by: waggy
