It's not too bad unless you have crappy phonelines/modem. Most people connect at 45K but are really at 30K (it gets progressively slower). If you were to connect and maintain 56K speeds, it wouldn't be that bad at all. I've been lucky some times to connect at 50K and actually be able to download with speeds between 5KB and 5.5KB/s which is in reality 40K. Also if you have a good line, you can play FPS with dialup but you have to make sure you have a good ping.

It's ironic because there are two views (one with dialup and one with dialup with their "program") and the page with their program doesn't load at all while the one with out the program does...

After I got a 56 K modem, when I was on dialup ... I was pretty much always connecting at 48 to 53 K.
My download speeds were pretty much always 6 KB/Sec for binary transfers.

That's about 20MB per hour, or 150MB if I were to leave it downloading all night.
With my Wide Open West cable, I can download at about 30MB per minute. So it would take 5 minutes for 150MB.

Oh, and for the record, downloading on dialup is something of an art form. I personally accumulated EIGHTY GIGABYTES of ***PERFECTLY LEGAL DATA*** in a fairly short time towards the end of my phone modem career. I quickly expanded that to over half a terabyte after switching to broadband, though.
