How secure does everyone feel about their jobs????

I'm currently interning and don't believe I will be cut by the middle of May.

There is a small chance that the economy could get really bad, and the company I'm interning with during the summer could retract their offer.

I'm really worried as I can just go to school in the summer instead and graduate a semester early. If the job market is still bad, I'll stay in school for a masters or PhD.

Well I am self employed so I don't look to get fired or layed off anytime soon lol.

So far, I am relatively shielded from the economic downturn and business has been steady but if the economy continues to worsen and we slip into a depression like situation I don't think anyone will be able to escape.....

I'm an intern at a company whose primary customer was the banking industry. Things aren't looking too hot, as you can imagine. Wage freeze, hiring freeze, etc.
Everyone else in the area is busy laying off people left and right. I might be working retail again, assuming any of them would hire me. I imagine such places will be inundated with other overqualified people looking for any income.

I feel quite secure. The company just laid off 500 people in a restructuring process. I don't think it was so much because of the economy (though I'm sure it had an impact) but they've been cutting everywhere for the past year, but I see it as just trying to manage finances better. If they can let go that many people without impacting work getting done, then that's saying something. Most of these people where either redundant, or had titles nobody even knew what they meant or did.

I work at help desk, and there will always be retards screwing up their internet, computers, forgetting all their passwords all of a sudden for no reason, and stuff will always break because it's mostly all weird crappy apps that we support. (lot of these are written by a company called CGI if you've dealt with their apps you'll know what I mean. 😉)

We are basically 3 at help desk and we manage internet, internal users, external PC support contracts (multi milion dollar contracts - 500+ pcs per customer), small business, and 611, for the entire region. So yeah, I can't seem them getting rid of a help desk or PC support position. 😛

I also have a possible promotion coming up to be server tech. It's pretty much for sure, just don't know when.

And with all this if ever I DID happen to lose my job, I'm still living at home saving up for a house, so I'd have all the time I need to find a job, though of course I don't want to end up in that situation. I'd probably open up a business though.

I feel there are about 5 people in front of me before I have to go. Even then, I would probably be able to drop down to part time.

That would be horrible, but I think I could make it work out. Then again if this happens and my Wife's Starbuck's closes, we are fucked.

Ditto. My employer isn't going anywhere. The only thing that can mess me up is poor job performance.

My job is government related so it is fairly secured. We don't have any laidoffs but hiring freeze and zero pay raise for anyone this year (from top dog down to the bottom).

The bank I work for now is looking to expand and in 6 weeks I'll be the only one here that knows anything about our $1M blade and SAN architecture.

I also do consulting on the side and have been for 4.5 years for the same small business. Because they gave me my first big break they get me for cheap.

However, I'm still looking for a new job and the one I have the best shot with is another rapidly expanding bank.

I'm fortunate to still have a job. I hope things look up and all you guys find something better than what you had previously. It's not fun to be laid off.

same here. the company would have to go under for me to lose my job unless i fuck up very badly. luckily, we have weeded out some undesirables as well as gotten some pretty fat contracts to hold us over for a year or so. overall, the company is pretty set. no debt, we can bond ourselves and we have a pretty solid niche in our industry

Relatively secure. My company posted at the high end of profit expectations made before all the economic problems came to light.

Not very: we are going out of business

Although I will be starting a new job on the 15th. That one, I don't know. They are growing still (although not at a fast rate) so they added a new position - but if that growth goes the other way I will be the first cut....

Very unsecure.
Had two jobs. Got laid off my night job about a month ago, they laid off all of their part time people at once.

My day job, the company is on the verge of collapsing. Luckily my wife works and is fairly secure, we would be literally in poverty but we could keep our house just on her paycheck.

Also nearly debt free with some money in the bank.

We went through a round of layoff in November.

The 2nd round of layoffs finished up yesterday. I still have a job.

I've been here 11 years, but I was still stressed out during this last layoff round. I'm the only tester left, so I really hope they don't decide that the developers can test their own output.

We have a company meeting at 10am PST, so we'll be informed if there are any other "organizational changes" coming.

I'm pretty secure here.. at least through the middle of next year.

Back in the dot com bust though I got hit 4 times between 1999 - 2002.. man that was fun 🙁 always bounced back and got a job though. Just glad my mortgage will be paid off no later then May of next year.
