How organized is your computer?

The last time I bought a hard drive I set it up with folders for everything such as "drivers", "Software", "video, "audio".....

I've had that drive as a secondary drive for at least 5 years now. Over the years I've allowed it to become un-manageable.

If only firefox had a 'tagging' system that you pre-define a certain file type that is associated with certain folders and it makes you 'tag' your file before you can save.

save file ->tick the 'driver' file type.. files saves to whatever folder you chose for that type to be at.

That would be awesome. Over time I end up getting lazy and just start throwing crap in the root of my D drive. I could re-organize it all.. but it wouldn't seem right for some reason. I think I need to just clean the damn thing out actually.

I'll have to admit.. that is really the best organized part of my drive. It's like super-perfect.
If I want big t.... err. nevermind.

I'm pretty neurotic about how my computers are all set up and they all follow a very similar format.

I'm especially OCD about the appearance of the workspace.. I hate icons and clutter so all the menus are organized and there's no icons on the desktop unless it cannot be helped.

My work hard drive is 95% accurate, but with 100's of clients who have different source files it has to be.

Sounds like you need The Magic Folder. Download your files into this folder and it will automatically move them to the appropriate folder depending on the file extension. Put all .exe and .msi files into an Apps/Uncategorized folder to sort later, throw .mp3 files into a Music/Uncategorized folder, put .avi and .mp4 files into a Videos folder, etc. It's not perfect but it's quite cool.

My Macbook Pro is TERRIBLE. I don't even want to talk about it.

My other laptop and my workstation is pretty good.

Work is also terrible. I don't even want to think about organizing that crap.

Very organized, but that's because I delete a lot. I don't keep stuff. Only using 60gb out of 937GB right now... Most of it is just big files.

Pretty well organized. Very few icons on the desktop. Recycle Bin and 5 folders. MOST everything else is stashed inside folders inside folders.

My favorites have levels within levels within levels...for example, to get to ATOT:
favorites --> computers --> review sites and forums --> general forums --> anandtech --> off topic.

HDD is also pretty well organized. everything has a place, and everything in its place.

It drives me crazy when I get on someone else's computer and there are 6,769 different icons, bookmarks, and documents all on the desktop.
COME ON PEOPLE! Organize stuff! CLEAN UP THIS MESS!!

My server has six TB drives, and those are perfectly sorted. Then there's another 250GB drive in there that I sort out to the TB data drives every few months. The contents of the 250 are just thrown in there, and it'll take a day's work to sort. My main computer holds next to nothing for data.

This, except I also keep a 'temp' folder on my desktop, that I just throw random stuff into, and clean it out once every few months.

iTunes organizes my music, I have a Folder for Downloads(anything/everything), when Installing a new Program I choose the most empty Drive. That's the extent of my Organizing. All Apps, Games, Utils I use have a Quicklaunch Link, so I rarely go directly to my Drives for anything.

Yes. Everything is in My Documents, organized by type.
I'd do a Print Folder on it but I dont want you guys to see what I got in there. Suffice to say, its well layed out.

The main system drive with all the program files on it is sorted meticulously and I do stay up to date on cleaning it.

My music folder is also in excellent shape. However video is just a hodgepodge. My download folder is a mess and so are my work folders and desktop.

If it's unix-based, then it is perfectly organized all the time. If it's Windows, it's kind of everywhere and anywhere with files, but in general files are divided into folders, but the folders may be in a multiple of places.
