For your computer?
No. Get at least 1920x1200. At a minimum. In that size.
If I were buying today I'd wouldnt get a 27 incher unless it could do at least 2560x1440 or thereabouts.
Does the Z87 only support 8GB modules? I figure they state "max 16GB" only because they didn't test/qualify any 16GB/32GB modules.I think I built this guy in June, but I've messed with it a bit over time.
CPU: i7-4770k
RAM: 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3-2100
MBO: ASUS Maximus VI Formula
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 Ti OC
SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB
SSD: Crucial M4 256GB
HDD: Seagate 3TB 7200 RPM
HDD: Hitachi 2TB 7200 RPM
ODD: Pioneer BDR-206 BDRW
PSU: Corsair AX860
ENC: Corsair 900D
I actually have 32GB of RAM, but my switch back to air cooling made me remove two of my sticks of RAM to allow for better clearance.
I used to use this guy with water cooling (hence the 900D), but I've since gone back to air. I've been debating switching cases for a while now, but I haven't found anything that I really like. I'm mostly looking for something with good airflow to the GPU, which cases like that certain do exist. The problem is that they're all these ugly, gaudy, plastic-y, LED-ridden pieces of junk. I might end up going with the NZXT H630. While it lacks a side-panel fan, it has internal fans to help redirect air to the video card (and CPU). It might be sufficient, but what I'd like is a Corsair 550D that's about the size of a Corsair 800D.
Mini-ITX boards only support 16GB of RAM.
Too cheap to get a 27" with 2560x1440 and I wouldn't like the small dot pitch for text -- Windows/program text size enlargement isn't perfect.
They gave me a POS 20" 1600x900 monitor at work with hardcore backlight bleed (all 4 sides), so I think I could manage with 1920x1080.
My gaming desktop is an E8500 with 6gb DDR2 and a GeForce GTX460. The case is roughly 10 years old and has seen 4 or 5 motherboards in that time.
The computer I use every day is a Toshiba laptop I bought last November. Celeron 1037u, 4gb ddr3 and a 500gb HDD. Runs windows 8.1 and I have a second monitor connected via VGA. It's more than powerful enough for daily tasks, browsing, chatting, watching HD video. I'll use it till something breaks.
Hmm, you use your laptop for daily use due to power usage? Just curious. I have a laptop but I tend to use my desktop at home almost always. Might be able to save some power by using laptop instead especially since my desktop has a dedicated GPU.
2 days.
Ncase M1 chassis: $205
Asrock Z87E-ITX board: $110
Intel Core i7-4770k (Haswell) CPU: $250
Crucial 240GB mSATA SSD: $120
Silverstone 450W "Gold" SFX form factor PSU: $95
Using these components from my brother since he put his build on hiatus 8+ months ago and never used them:
EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 GPU: $???
16GB Crucial Ballistix DDR3 memory: $???
Corsair H100 closed-loop watercooler: $???
Not quite done with it. I want to put a 780 Ti in there and try 32GB RAM. *maybe* a slot-load Blu-Ray drive if a good deal pops up.
What will I use it for? Probably some gaming. I want it to be a dual-boot Hackintosh. Might be a good system to build iOS apps with.
It boots incredibly fast.
My current computer is based on a C2D E6600. I could use it for years to come, but I noticed a bulging cap on the mb a few months ago, so it may not last as long as I could use it. I built it in 2006.
I just bought an Acer Aspire One from the pawn shop for $100. It was made in 2011 I think. It's a great machine, and I expect I'll use it for years unless I break it.
