Current computer built in Jan. 2010, about the time the first gen. Sandy Bridge processors were coming out. I prefer to not be an early adopter, so I went with an i5-760 processor.
I added an SSD in January of this year...excellent upgrade.

About the only other thing I'd like to change is my video card. Currently have an EVGA GTX460. I'd like to jump a couple of generations...but I'm cheap...and don't really NEED a much faster card.

I was in the same boat with my video card but with coin mining inflating the value of my 5870 like crazy I only spent $40 more to grab a GTX770 after selling my 5870.

I bought an open box Dell i7 920 back in Jan 09 for a great deal. Mobo is long since toast so I replaced that a couple years ago. Maxed out the ram to 24GB. Added a 256GB SSD when I replaced the mobo. CPU and ATI 4850 are the only original parts.

I've thought about upgrading but since the CPU socket is now dead I'd have to replace the mobo as well. Just doesn't seem worth it, it's plenty fast for me now.

oldest part is a crucial m4 from jan 2012. only 13 GB free so either i start cleaning or i get a larger one. that's probably the next upgrayedd. i expect the 3570k, board, and ram to keep chugging along for several more years what with the pace of overall cpu power going at a crawl.

Couple machines. All are on Sandy/ivy. Probably won't consider an update until after haswell. And even then probably only on my gaming rig. The rest likely will be stagnant for some time.

Possibly do a Kaveri swap on my mitx bedroom PC.. See how the $$$ looks in a month or two.

10 years for my Cooler Master Stacker STC-T01 (the original Stacker). :)

The dinky 80mm blowhole fan been replaced with 3x120mm radiator grill/mount but that required modification to the PSU cage. The PC Power & Cooling Turbo-Cool 1KW is too big to mount up there anyway (dual PSU feature of this case really came in handy!).

The laughable 80mm fan in the 300mm side panel fan grill has been replaced with a much more appropriate 250mm fan.

The motherboard was flipped for reverse ATX. It was an easy mod due to the BTX conversion option but it did require a few nips with the nibbler to keep the expansion card area on top.

Of course, I have the optional CrossFlow blower fan and two additional 4-in-3 modules installed (tons of HDDs!).

I needed HD Audio and USB3.0 for modern FPIO so I have a Silverstone 3.5" drive bay device providing that (Firewire and the old AC97 audio will be blocked off).

An ancient enthusiast chassis is now a fully-modernized enthusiast chassis. ;)

I don't OC so I have never had to muck with the airflow, even though it is not very good in the Wavemaster I have. But the case is freaking gorgeous, all beautifully machined aluminum, and it hasn't really aged a whit in nearly a decade. I can't see myself getting rid of it as long as they make mobos that will fit.

I'm on a Core 2 Q9400 from June 2009. I also added a GTX 460 about a year later, and an SSD a little after that.

I planned to upgrade to Haswell last year, but stuff came up. I've been hoping to get a Haswell or Broadwell K-series desktop CPU with Crystal Well, as that would make PrimeGrid fly, but I don't know if they'll ever make one.

If they made a well-cooled, half-height, single-slot 750 or 750ti, I'd snap it up now to use later, along with one of these so I could use it in my current system alongside the 460. I'm not sure which one would be faster.

Most of my rig's components are from last year, except the case and memory:

4770k
Asus Max. VI Gene
GTX 780
Samsung 4GB (x4) 30nm DDR3
Seasonic Plat. 860W
Corsair Obsidian 650D
Samsung 512GB 840 Pro
WD 2TB Black

Wife's desktop is my hand-me-down and a year or so older:

3570k
Asus Max. V Gene
Corsair 4GB (x2) DDR3
6950 gpu--Sapphire, I think
Intel 250GB 510 SSD
WD 1TB Black

There's an Asus 17" laptop with an i7 in it and 8GB RAM.....don't use it a whole lot so forget the specs. Maybe a year or so old. I mostly use an old ipad 2 for watching movies at night when the wife's asleep...much easier to manage than the laptop when lounging on the couch.

There was a SB-E setup in between the wife's rig and my current one. That one had at one time or another a 7970, 7970 LIghtning, a Titan, and a GTX 780 in it. The RAM was the same as what I currently run and in same case. The mb & cpu were sold when I "upgraded" to the Haswell setup I'm currently running.

I do have a few old parts kicking around....most notably a PC Labs Qmicra v2 case in its box, an old Corsair HX620, Antec Neo Eco 620W (both being held as backups), and various bits of RAM.

mine was built at the end of 2012.
i5-3570K 3.40GHz ,
Asus P8Z77-V LX,
16GB DDR-3
240GB samsung 840 SSD
ATi 6950 flashed to a 6970

my last system was built around a Q6600 and lasted until i built this so realistically this will last another 3-5 years. microsoft is going the smaller OS route so no upgrade needed for that and games are still mostly playable on my laptops 550m gpu let alone what i have in this PC.

enough RAM, cpu grunt, SSD is more than enough. the next upgrade will either be the GPU or a 5TB drive.

Mine is from November of 2009. It's an i7-860, 8GB, 5870, 240GB Intel 530.

Few games interest me these days since everything has moved to FPS. It is enough to play D3 and the upcoming Reaper of Souls. I will probably build a new one when Star Citizen launches.

I never really liked that pedestal piece but it definitely screams "well built!" when you look at it. ;) My friend might still be using another ancient but awesome Cooler Master case that nailed the looks with metallic mesh. It looked like aluminum but I remember it weighing a ton when we took it to QuakeCon 2003. I need to look that one up.

Edit: Some Cooler Master ATC S series case.

QuakerCon 2003.
I bet that was lots of fun.

I'm pretty sure he had the same case as markbnj (CM WaveMaster).

[edit]
I don't recall any "metallic mesh" on his case.

Nope. It was an ATC S series of some kind with filtered mesh intake on the front and little doors for FPIO.

As for "QuakerCon," I tediously corrected multiple SwiftKey auto-corrections that kept changing it to different 2-word combinations but it looks like it forced another one on me anyway.

Edit: like this though I'm not sure if his was the other one without the door over the drive bays:

Quad Core i7 2.80 GHz with 8GB RAM. I built it a few years ago with a focus on reliability and low noise. Windows 7 is installed on a 120GB SSD with a 1.5 TB internal hard drive for storage and an ATI Radeon 6800 video card to handle graphics. All the hardware is installed in a black mid tower Lian-Li case.

I have no plans to upgrade it anytime soon.

My case is approaching ten years old now, as is my monitor. Most of the other parts have been updated in the past couple of years.

Both of my computers are roughly 6 years old and I still see no reason to upgrade. Late 2008 Macbook Pro with C2D @ 2.66, but I put an SSD in as my OS drive and replaced the optical drive with my 2nd hard drive. I also upgraded it to 8GB ram. I'll be honest, its still plenty fast.

And my desktop is a Quad 6700 with an 8800GT. I don't play games on it but it still plays the ones I care to dabble in. Runs my content for the projector and windows media center just fine.

I built it in May 2012:

3770k
32GB memory
3 SSDs
GTX 680 + GTX 650Ti BOOST
Too many monitors

I expect it to last for a very long time. I've got zero desire to upgrade it and I'm apparently basically done with gaming, so I don't see any reason to mess with it.

What do you do that requires so many monitors

My side monitor (formerly main) is also nearing a decade. It's a 2405fpw that refuses to die. To honor its stubborness in clinging to life I bought it a U2412M to sit next to :).

2407 pushing 6 or 7 years here. No real reason to get a new one other than to save some juice since newer monitors use LEDs. I'd probably go with a 27", 1920x1080.

I think I built this guy in June, but I've messed with it a bit over time.

CPU: i7-4770k
RAM: 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3-2100
MBO: ASUS Maximus VI Formula
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 780 Ti OC
SSD: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB
SSD: Crucial M4 256GB
HDD: Seagate 3TB 7200 RPM
HDD: Hitachi 2TB 7200 RPM
ODD: Pioneer BDR-206 BDRW
PSU: Corsair AX860
ENC: Corsair 900D

I actually have 32GB of RAM, but my switch back to air cooling made me remove two of my sticks of RAM to allow for better clearance.

I used to use this guy with water cooling (hence the 900D), but I've since gone back to air. I've been debating switching cases for a while now, but I haven't found anything that I really like. I'm mostly looking for something with good airflow to the GPU, which cases like that certain do exist. The problem is that they're all these ugly, gaudy, plastic-y, LED-ridden pieces of junk. I might end up going with the NZXT H630. While it lacks a side-panel fan, it has internal fans to help redirect air to the video card (and CPU). It might be sufficient, but what I'd like is a Corsair 550D that's about the size of a Corsair 800D.

Not quite done with it. I want to put a 780 Ti in there and try 32GB RAM. *maybe* a slot-load Blu-Ray drive if a good deal pops up.

Mini-ITX boards only support 16GB of RAM.

For your computer?

No. Get at least 1920x1200. At a minimum. In that size.
If I were buying today I'd wouldnt get a 27 incher unless it could do at least 2560x1440 or thereabouts.
