Once again, how can I prove something that I was not a witness to, nor do I have the tools to "scientifically" prove it so? The only thing I have to rely on is the word of G-d, and my own experience. I suppose next you'll be asking for "pics"

You can provide links to the proof of creation "scientists". They seem to be inline with your way of thinking.
Or give some other proof.

Something other than "The Bible tells me so."
rolleye.gif

Here's the problem with that: my beliefs may "seem to be inline with theirs" but are mine and not theirs. I'd rather not use another man's beliefs or work as a crutch.
Well, that pretty much takes the bible out of the equation then, doesn't it?

You are truly the master of the cop-out.

WTF? Just how, pray-tell did you arrive at this conclusion?

Because you ARE using other people's beliefs as a crutch. The people that wrote that book.

The Bible is a bunch of stories written by people from various cultures. It contains their own beliefs and biases.

I think if you truly believed your beliefs were your own, you'd have to write your OWN Bible.

BTW, you just cursed! :Q

I see this topic has degraded into Yet Another Attack Flyermax Thread quite rapidly... Judging by the voraciousness of your constant attacks upon me, one could easily conclude that flaming me is the only source of pleasure in your lives. I pray that you all can find a higher purpose for your lives than inflating your own egos.

This thread hurts to read, even as a joke. Toodles :) Perhaps one day we can have a religious thread on ATOT that is meaningful, but until then cheerio!
I pray that you all can find a higher purpose for your lives than inflating your own egos.
Honestly, I highly doubt you're praying for that.

I'm sorry. I was under the impression that the bible was written by homo sapiens sapiens.....several of them as a matter of fact.

Oh?

http://www.siouxcityuu.org/jonah.htm#sermon

Jonah, as literature, is satire. My dictionary defines satire as "a poem or prose work holding up human vices, follies, etc. to ridicule or scorn" or "trenchant wit, irony, or sarcasm used for the purpose of exposing and discrediting vice or folly." And that fits the book of Jonah.

The book of Jonah is satire. The book of Jonah is a spoof on some prevailing religious ideas and practices which the author of the book considered to be both bad and contrary to the best understanding of Hebrew faith. To understand Jonah as satire, however, may require an incursion into the historical epoch in which it was written and into the historical epoch which provides the setting for his story. Both of those -- the setting of the story and when it was written -- are very important to any proper understanding of Jonah.

Flyer I would suggest you dont take everything in the book literally.

Ever hear of a miracle? The idea behind a miracle is that the unexpected (indeed, impossible) occurs.

And this shows that no matter what - even if God himself said so Flyer wouldnt budge.

I would say a miracle is that a book that tells you things like Thou shalt not lie and Thou shalt not kill but then even God does the opposite of both still manages to hold you so fast.

You are a hilarious fanatic.

Interesting theory... Precisely where in the Bible does G-d go against His word?

Hey Flyer did you READ the Bible?

He tells us not to lie... great example when he decieves the Egyptians "let my people go Biznatch"

Do not kill.... HE FLOODED THE WORLD!!!!!!! Later he admits he was wrong though but you still think a book about the religion is infallible even though your own GOD IS (by that books admission - which you believe)

I cant remember but didnt he condone the stoning of the gay evil dude?

I dunno, I haven't really looked.... Besides, anything I link to will most likely be a religious site anyway and will be dismissed as "invalid". I don't know of any scientists out there trying to debunk their own work either...

They BELEIVE they were divinely inspired.

The Roman Catholic Church edited the book immensely anyways. Even if God himself/her/it wrote the book it wouldnt be the same now.

Nice examples. Too bad you're only proving my point. If you truly understood the concept of righteousness you would understand why G-d did what He did in the examples you mentioned.
Jesus spoke on this issue regarding "lying to liars" or deceiving the unrighteous and said it was, in fact, righteous not to reveal the truth to those who are truly lost.
He flooded the world to punish the unrighteous. That's not killing, it's righteous judgement.
"stoning of the gay dude" once again, righteous judgement.

I know because I recall a debate on the subject in a science class I had when I was in school. I haven't looked because I don't want to waste my time scouring the internet in a vain search for "proof" of my point that will only be ignored and disregarded anyway. Why put effort towards changing an outcome one cannot change? I could sit here for a million years and try to change your minds but the fact of the matter is every one of us is too stubborn to ever change our minds on a subject such as this.

How can we judge someone as unrighteous if we cannot judge others?

He also said he gave us "freedom of choice" - yet doesnt allow us to make our own choices without killing us all some freedom eh. Awesome.

Please say in your next post "Even though in the Bible God admits he made a mistake and promises to never again flood the world - I believe that not only is God infallible but a book is."

Then make the connection that you.. by your own beliefs are saying "I believe a Book is less capable of error that God"

Better yet, why not back up your own statements with a verse? Since you are so familiar with this section of the Bible in which G-d admits error, why not quote it here? G-d never said He was wrong just that He would never judge man in such a manner again.

How am I supposed to do that? I'm not a scientist, and I certainly don't have access to uranium so that I can test it and disprove its accuracy in dating the age of things. The only thing I have to fall back on is 1) the Bible and 2) the work of others. I don't like relying on others' work so that pretty much leaves me with the Bible.
BTW, I don't expect you to change your mind on this subject. That's the difference between the approaches seen in this thread.

Disagree. Columbus went out and proved people who called him an idiot wrong.

Nobody who believes the earth isn't millions or billions of years old can do the same. So they are idiots if they don't believe what has been proven beyond any shadow of a doubt.
