36 and zero if possible. Was using the onboard video until I got a LCD with a DVI connector about a year ago, at which time I went and bought a $25 9200LE from ChiefValue.

22 and the most I've spent on a card is ~$275 (CAD) on a VIVO FX5900XT.

I wouldn't spend any more than that.

Should have made it one big poll so you could see all the results at once...

But I'm 31 and wouldn't pay more than $100 for a video card.

24, $50-100. I don't play games. At least not recent games. I keep my computer a few years behind the current fastest, it's cheaper that way. (My Athlon XP 2200+ hasn't made me desire anything faster for the last 3 years)

by selling parts i reduce cost.. my new card was priced at 170, but it really only cost me $40 due to selling of cards and rebate money from other stuff i bought

Wow, for a computer nerd forum, you guys are a lot cheaper on the video cards than I would have expected.

i refuse to spend over 100 on a vid card

tnt1 for ~90
tnt2ultra for ~70
gf3 ti200 for 100
radeon 9600pro for ~40

actually i might be willing to spend ~150 if it was some crazy hot deal for a top of the line card. heh. :)

Video Card Purchases:

GeForce FX 5700 - $140
GeForce 6800GT - $280
GeForce 7800GT - $300

You won't catch me spending more than $300 on any single computer component, save for my Athlon 64 X2 4200+, but I got it with Nero 7 for free, so I guess it ended up being $300.

I think "practical" is a better term for it.

Most of us work full-time. $150 is...what...a full day's work (after tax) for most people here?

Think about that the next time you are slogging through another 8-hr day. Is it REALLY worth it to spend EVERYTHING you made during that day on a toy to play games with?

(Short answer - well, sure, but TWO days of work? THREE? FOUR?? Hells no! I don't have that much time to *game* in a week!)
