How often do you shut your home computer down?

Eh, I turn it off when I go to sleep at night. Computers do have feelings too, and mine appreciates a good nights sleep.

Other then that it's always on, and only gets rebooted for windows updates or error conditions.

Every night. I'm not convinced daily "start up" and "shut down" is detrimental to my hardware, so why keep it on all the time.

File server is always on. Desktop gets rebooted every two weeks or so. Laptop is hibernated when unused.

The only time my desktop is turned off is when I go out of town. My notebook stays on most of the time as well, unles there is a need to take it with me out of town, than its either off or in stand by.

Its not going to hurt the computer to leave it turned on and powered up 24/7, its more damaging to turn it on and off every 8 hours.

My gaming rig/neffing comp goes off whenever I'm not using it.

i have 2 desktops... one is a daily user, and stays on 24/7. if i turn it off, i'm turning it back on 1 second later. (only reason i ever do this, generally, is to buy something. i'll load the website in knoppix, cause i dont really trust my windows install atm) this machine is very quiet....so while it's audible, it's acceptable.

the other...goes off when it's not in use. which is most the time. it's kind of loud compared.

I have three computers and shut them down if I am not going to be using them for quite a while and also at bedtime.

They need their beauty sleep too.

I usually keep it on all the time unless I have a system update or something. I have remote desktop software so if I am out and about I might want to use my computer while I am out.

I turn it off when I'm not using it or running something (defrag and such) in the background. There's no point for me to leave it on.

yeah. My bill runs $23-$33 per month. I also have a large plasma that's on most of the time that I'm home. heat and cooking is gas.

The comp has a 420W power supply, X800 XL, Athlon 64 3500+ 1 gig OCZ 3200
It's idle most of the day, and I probably game/stress it 1-2 hours per day.

I'm not sure if the electric bill is still estimated off of previous tenant, but I'm pretty sure I've been in the apartment long enough to get a re-estimate.
