How often do you defrag?

I have Norton Utilities automatically do it once a week if it detects the fragmentation rate is above 10%.

I do after I go through and clean up are rearange stuff

Then I defrag them.

Usually once every two weeks or so.

Just checked and the 36Gb is @ 30% and the 160GB is @ 24%

So i Need to I will tonight

I don't defrag any of my "main" volumes, which are all FAT32. I have a couple of NTFS volumes, to allow for > 4GB filesizes, those I simply in-place re-format if I ever feel that the MFT for those volumes has become fragmented for some odd reason. I don't see any real reason to waste time with defragmentation. I do use partitions though, and tend to keep various similar types of files together, thus reducing the occurance of fragmentation as well, as much as can be done.

Rarely. I'm worse than someone who has no life--I don't even have a life on the damn computer! I don't accumulate a whole lot of data, and I'm lazy about taking other precautions I should.

About once every month or two months. I need to get Ghost and make an image of a fresh install one of these days though.

Not too often but it's not really necessary. The way my hard drives are organized fragmentation hasn't been problematic, so about every 4 - 6 months or so. A couple of drives have never been defragged at all since the original XP install 18 months ago.

On one of my 40 GB HD I do it before I load a big game like Doom III or Far Cry. It is just one big partition.

On my 120 GB HD I do it every so often to the data logical drive. Since I have my OS on one partition, programs on another and data on its own I don't have to do it so often.
