Every 5 days. I use Diskeeper and it only takes about 25 minutes to defrag a highly fragmented drive. I download a lot of movies so thats why I use it so often.

Every 2-3 months for me. I've had 3 bad HDDs recently, though, so I can't keep them long enough to care, it seems.

This may sound like the dumbest question ever to hit ATOT, and I apologize in advance:

Does Defragging have anything at all to do with your disk life? I KNOW what defragging does, but in terms of MTTF. Any influence?

I never do. I've done plenty of pre/post defrag benchmarks (on things like boot time/program load time) and have never found anywhere about a 1% difference on even the most fragged program. I'm not spending any of my time and putting any extra wear and tear on my HD for far under 1% speeds.

I use Norton System Utilities and I use Speed Disk and defrag at least once a week. Speed Disk moves the most accessed files to the front of the drive and moves all the files together. I can set it on a schedule and defrag when it gets below a set number.
