How often and how much do you drink per week?

What's an alcoholic?
People in this thread. Clinical definitions are available online; you can look for them and people here fit them. I don't want to get into a bulleted discussion, as I just don't have the energy. There is no single criteria but, like with most clinical diagnoses, once enough are reached the diagnosis is met. For example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcoholism#DSM_diagnosis

It's ok, I'm addicted to junk food, so I'm not pure of spirit.
but I don't think anyone here has posted enough to say they were alcoholic.
Some have regular, high levels of it admitted in this thread. That is, at the very least, demonstrably injurious to health. And if it were taken away they would sorely miss it at least and become excessively preoccupied with the loss.

I'd say it's a simple as not being able to stop when you want or need to.

As far as I'm concerned, everyone else is weird, but it's their lives (and money). As long as they don't infringe on the life of others (by taking it mainly - drinking and driving), more power to them.

Seriously though, they should study your genes or something. 😛 The desire to alter ones state of consciousness is so prevalent, it almost seems instinct driven on some levels. I wish I knew more about it.

Note that there is a difference between wanting to experience an altered state of consciousness and being an addict, though.

I don't see very many of the DSM criteria in this thread. As I said, binge-drinking is not alcoholism.

I would say I go through 1.5L of whiskey per week. That could be in 2 days, or 4, but I usually take 3 days off from drinking minimum. Would I consider myself an alcoholic? Compared to the rest of my family, no.

1.5L in 2 days! I've come close a few times (like maybe twice) but as a regular thing. 😱

Yeah I kind of hit my rock bottom with the drinking a couple months ago, have not drank since then.

Don't really crave alcohol that much, but I think there was some transference towards sweets and coffee, as I have been on those more.
