my buddy just found out he has an enlarged liver from too much drinking. So he has to lay off the sauce forever.
I have no idea what to do today when I come over to watch football, lol.
Do I drink in front of him and make him hate life?
Do I not drink and torture myself the whole time i'm there?

fuck it, i'll try to hold off. But the second one of the other guys cracks open a beer, i'm chuggin

id drink

but i wouldnt drink as much as he did to get an enlarged liver

/doesnt an enlarged liver sound like it would be helpful for drinking?

Not how it works man...body/liver is trying to tell you "no more, i'm hurting" Think of an ankle swelling up after being stressed (sprained).

Also, 0 drinks/day for me.

hang out with a pretty socially drinking group. we proably drink 5 nights a week. usually having 4 at a minimum. 8 on a longer night. who knows how many on those once a month 'i hate myself in the morning' days.

My wife has a beer, rum and coke or vodka martini 4-5 nights per week. I average about a shot of whiskey per week. Neither of us has been drunk in my memory, nor can I remember the last time I had more than two drinks in an evening.

My average booze run is a 750ml each of rum, vodka and whiskey, which lasts us a pretty long time.

I have a glass of cider every evening during dinner. Some appears to be getting hard. Does that count? Otherwise, I probably average about a beer every other week. A little more frequently in the summer (an ice cold brew is awesome after several hours of haying) and less frequently in the winter. (Maybe a beer after a day of hunting.)

A drink or two, even every single night, is perfectly healthy.

If it were up to me, I wouldn't drink a single drop of alcoholic beverages. But in social gatherings, people who drink often seem uncomfortable around people who don't. They also like to try to convince people to 'drink up'. In my case, I drink (very little) exclusively when in said situations because I don't want to be 'the guy who doesn't drink'. I'm the guy who will make one beer last an entire night.

Meh, screw other people. Im a problem drinker but I can have plenty of fun and be highly social at a bar when completely sober.

Fairly recently, I've found alcohol a good substitue for water. I drink any time I am thirsty, and mix in drinks with high sugar in it to balance it out.

I go through about 1 - 1 1/2 pints of grey goose a day now.

Occasionally i enjoy a good glass of cognac or whiskey (both with ice cubes).
And sometimes i am being a heretic because i mixed a bit with some nice juice.
I know it is blasphemy. I bow my head in shame... :p

But it has been low amounts since i only have a drink in company or going out and when i feel like it. And i do not feel like it at all for a while now. I do not drink alone or when just being alone. Even 1 glass. When i was a young man i used to binge drink but stopped doing that a while ago because i do not want to destroy my liver, kidneys, heart, brain and much more. That does not mean that i never get a bit tipsy once every few months over the course of an afternoon and an evening with good company. :)

About a pint of whiskey on Friday nights. We play poker as a group two tables 8-9 each table and besides blinds doubling every 12 minutes to accelerate play drinking helps otherwise I play to tight. I used to drink everyday in my 20s after work with office people. Seriously wasteful and fat making.

Quite a few alcoholics here, it seems. Many "social" drinkers fit that criteria quite well but don't see themselves as alcoholics.

Why not get non-alcoholic beer? It doesn't actually taste that terrible. Also, that's incredibly weak to drink just because you don't want to make others uncomfortable or tired of them dogging on you.

My niece, a stripper who works at strip clubs, proudly states that she only drinks when she works. Uhh, I'd like to remind her that most people work 5 days a week, but then she also proudly states that she's worked three days in a row and refuses to work another as if it is completely unreasonable to work that much.

I have not gone to a doctor about it, if that is what you mean.

When I drink, I get all red and blotchy all over my body, I feel very hot inside and quite nauseous. The duration is directly related to how much I drank.

About once a year or so, I will drink something with my brother-in-law present (a kind of odd tradition of ours), just to see if it disappears as suddenly as it appeared. It has been almost 20 years.

You probably just have aldehyde dehydrogenase deficiency. It's what most asians who are intolerant to alcohol have, by the way. Symptoms fit, especially the flushing, and nausea.

Really? It depends on how you define alcoholism, but binge drinking is not alcoholism. A few people here binge drink, but I don't think anyone here has posted enough to say they were alcoholic.

I used to drink a couple a day, but now that I'm 6 years past college I can't keep up anymore :(

It disrupts my sleep and makes me feel like shit, so now I generally only drink 1 or 2 days a week, and only have 1-3 drinks.

So I'd say on average maybe 4 drinks/week, in contrast to my 20 drinks/week straight out of college.
