Here's how a coworker thinks you should make and drink coffee:

To make: instead of the 1 to 1.5 teaspoons of grounds per cup...it's three teapspoons. And you have to put so much in there that it overflows the filter and makes a miserable mess inside the filter bowl.

To drink: to compensate for your ground filled tar you call coffee, you must add one ounce of creamer for every ounce of coffee you consume.

:Q

UHG! Seriously...she makes this stuff that looks like motor oil that's 50,000 miles overdue for a change and then fills up her coffee glass halfway with those flavored creamers and tops it off with the sludge she calls coffee.

:vomit;

Or if it's instant, don't use the same instructions as instant hot chocolate.

4 or 5 teaspoons of instant coffee in each cup is a bit strong.

I'm going to guess that you office workers wouldnt survive shop coffee :p . It's made a fair bit stronger than your co-worker's method, and there's no cream or sugar to add.

Personally, I only touch it when I've had less than 3 hours of sleep and need something to get me started. The alcoholics at my job seem to drink it like it is water every morning.

So much for drinking coffee for the taste.

I don't see how people say 'I LOVE COFFEE" and procede to get a cup half full and fill it with sugar, cream, and god knows what so they don't taste the coffee. Why not just get one of those annoying little frappachino things... or better yet, just drink something you actually like rather than trying to play coffee lover?

I add a little dab of creamer just to cut down on some of the acidity of the coffee. Usually one of those little cups of creamer for every 8oz or so of coffee. If I don't add that my GI system does bad things

I put about 1 to 1.5 tablespoons of coffee per cup. It is by no means 'sludge'. It's quite good :)

If you are saying that people who totally drown the taste of coffee out are freaks, I agree. If you are saying people who add a somewhat sizeable portion of cream and sugar can't taste the coffee, you are wrong. I don't like black coffee because it is too thin and too bitter. I put cream and sugar in my coffee because it enhances the texture and flavor.

Which is why I drink tea. That, and the taste.

I had a roommate that would do that. He wouldn't make a mess and he always used freshly ground fancy-pants beans from the coffee house, but he'd make is so damn strong. The coffee I make is pretty much medium, I'd judge but he made fun of me for making "brown water." Then I see the dink drink his coffee one-to-one with milk - well no sh!t he's got to make it strong or the coffee taste disappears. I then kicked him in the jingleberries and we called it a draw.

See, I make it as strong as him, and would deride you for making brownish water, but I drink it straight-up black and bitter.

I also perfer my iced tea unsweetened and my beer extremely hoppy.

MmmmMM Coffee.

I only drink it maybe two or three times a month, but I have to add a little creamer (flavored).

Iced? All the time.

Hot? Only for the occasional change of pace, mostly as I find it much harder to make or find a good cup of tea around here, while coffee is easy.

Now, when I was in London...you could get used to that tea.

Most coffee is an insipid insult to anyone's palate, so the adulterations help make it drinkable. I prefer not to drink any preground stale nonsense at all, but to admonish someone drinking Folger's/Maxwell's House for adding sugar is like criticizing someone to using ketchup on their McDonald's burger; it's crap, so whatever you can add to it to make it palatable is a worthwhile addition.

I drink my home-roasted perfectly brewed espresso/press coffee as it were meant, but to each their own. You've not really experienced coffee until you've had high-quality beans freshly roasted and ground just prior to brewing.

I like a hoppy beer too so long as it isn't overly floral, but a bitter coffee is often indicative of improper brewing method, poor roasting, etc. Bitter components are there of course, but the typical bitterness people associate with coffee is as flawed as an over-oaked Chardonnay.

Indeed!
Excessive steak sauce use is a pet peeve of mine, same idea, but we're talking coffee, or coffee flavored milk for some.

See, bad coffee is weak or sour. Good coffee doesn't have to be bitter, but I prefer beans and roasts (wither preground or grinding my own) that tend towards bitter. (Good bitter, though. I'd also describe the taste of old coffee or coffee made in a dirty pot as bitter, but it's a different bitter.) And I can make good coffee from cheap pre-ground beans. Not as good as I can make by spending more, but good. And I've had bad coffee made from freshly ground beans, for that matter (I didn't make it, though.)
