you are either gonna love it . . . or give up ;)
costs nothing but your time and you will learn a bit about making a game.

Yeah, the only thing you can't do is create a new base file. You can modify the existing base file until it is completely different, but you can't create a new one.

One of the best free mmorpgs I ever saw was called Odyssey. It was written in visual basic and used sprites but it had lots of soul and that made it fun to play. They probably could have done more with a budget, but I think having 0 budget allowed them to focus more on how fun the game would be with strict limitations. It's a lot easier to throw money at something that is already fun, than something that is just an idea.

If I were really going to make an MMORPG, like I had my heart set out on it. I'd go for something small. A nitch market and I'd start with a 0 budget. Once I've got something that people will actually get addicted to, then I'd throw money at it to make it more professional and hire artists / story writers / etc.

To pull this off, the person with the idea should also be the one writing 99% of the code.

I don't think you can really make any real type of money unless you have a game that can match World of Warcraft standard. When player play it , they don't wanting to be do tute for 2hrs before they can play the game , they just want to get in and play the game and learn everything seamlessly.

Second the players want action in the 1st hr of playing or you will loose player interest in the game :( ...

Third never do anything that World War 2 Online does as its one of the most horrible MMOFPS ever. When i started to play this game , i have no ****** clue what i was doing or what i was meant to do , it took me few hrs to learn the basic and few days of playing to get my 1st freaking kill and then one month later , i only have 13 kills which is horrible as i spent over 40hrs on that stupid game.

Like when i played World of Warcraft for the 1st time my dude was already on level 17 in the 20hrs i played the game.
