So... how much would it have to cost for you to buy one?

Right now, the cheapest one is $495 at eWiz.

I think I would get one over the 7800GTX512 if it was $400...

What do you guys think?

Close to pulling the trigger. At $495, can't beat the bang for the buck. If the 7800GTX 512 was $600, it would be a tougher decision but that's not going to happen for a long time.

I think since the X1800XT is competing squarely with the 7800GTX256, then it should be around 400 or less. I have seen some people selling their 7800GTX256 for $350 even on the FS/FT forums.

Ya, $350 for a used one. The cheapest 256MB 7800GTX's are around $450 right now with the oced versions in the $500 range. I think $495 for a card that outperforms it is a great price, especially with the IQ enhancements the review sites are saying it has.

It would have to available as an x1800gto for <$200 that can be unlocked and OC'd to x1800xt pe levels.

You can't compare the X1800XT to the price of a used GTX256. If you didn't pay more for new stuff, why would anyone ever buy used? The price on the X1800XT should be around $450-500. This is ATI's flagship card (and a fantastic performer), you won't see this card in the $300's for a while.

Can you find a new 7800GTX256 for around 400 or less? NO, so why bring up used? And based on how the X1800XT outperforms a 7800GTX256, the price is about right. And with the price of a 7800GTX512 at 700-750, it's tough to ignore this card at this price.

What's better if I need 1920x1200 w/ high filtering? My two other options would be 7800GTX512 at 700-750 or 7800GT SLI at 650+ for the evga CO's.

$500 would be pretty reasonable compared to the 256 GTX, but it seems that the X1800 cards require CCC, which I've heard a lot of negative things about.

Catalyst Control Center

I don't believe they require it, but i do have to say that it's ghay as hell.
It takes like 10 seconds just to frickin' load on my system.

Hate to say, but it feels like bloatware.

You don't have to install it if you don't want to.

For some odd reason, i do actually, since the regular drivers cannot display the proper resolution for my projector :(

This is pretty much true. Comparably priced with the 256 7800GTX it has to be considered. It has some advantages, some disadvantages, but at that level it's a strong contender.
