Oh you mean how much vacation time from work?
The basics of holiday rights
There is a minimum right to paid holiday, but your employer may offer more than this. The main things you should know about holiday rights are that:
- you are entitled to a minimum of 5.6 weeks paid annual leave - 28 days for someone working five days a week (capped at a statutory maximum of 28 days for all working patterns)
- part-time workers are entitled to the same level of holiday pro rata (so 5.6 times your usual working week, eg 22.4 days for someone working four days a week)
- you start building up holiday as soon as you start work
- your employer can control when you take your holiday
- you get paid your normal pay for your holiday
- when you finish a job, you get paid for any holiday you have not taken
- bank and public holidays can be included in your minimum entitlement
- you continue to be entitled to your holiday leave throughout your ordinary and additional maternity leave and paternity and adoption leave
WTF is with your poll?
Most people get 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 4 weeks...
Not 2-3 weeks, or 3-4 weeks.
What do I choose if I have 3 weeks?
lol fail poll... here in Aussie, you are guaranteed 20 (or 4 weeks) of paid vacation. Not bad.
In Australia, unlike many other countries, employees are generally entitled to additional leave, known as long service leave, over and above their annual leave if they stay with a particular employer for a certain length of time. A common entitlement in Australia is that employees who remain with a particular employer for ten years will receive an entitlement of eight and two-thirds weeks' (two calendar months) paid leave and more on a pro-rata basis the longer they stay with that employer. This amount was originally thirteen weeks (three months) after fifteen years in most states until recent years. In the Australian Capital Territory, Australia, an employee is entitled to pro-rata long service leave after seven years.
From your link:
Holy crap. How the hell did you guys ever get this passed? Inquiring (and insanely jealous) US workers want to know. We work ourselves to death over here in comparison....and it shows in our physical/mental health. We get zilch in terms of mandated vacation. 2 weeks is customary for full time salaried employees, but thats if you are lucky.
Wait until they hear about Aussie's long service leave![]()
