POLL TIME!

How much trash does your household typically produce in a week?

Best way I can think of to quantify this is by the number of bags filled, since trash bags seem to be pretty standard size (13gal for "kitchen" bags usually). Maybe someone else has a better way, though.

Since I'm by myself, I usually fill between 1 and 2 bags a week, usually 1 though.

Less than 1. Usually 1 bag every 2 weeks. I try to aim for once every 2 weeks even if the trash is not full because then it starts stinking. I also recycle extensively and produce roughly 3x more recycling items than normal trash. I also compost at home so any organics and biodegradable items get diverted to my compost.

usually half fill our 96 gallon toter, fill recycle bin, 1-2 bags of yard waste per week

i voted 4-5 bags using your scale

2 person household

2-3 13 gallon bags typically.

Add another 2-3 30 gallon bags on weeks when I mow the lawn.

I also fill up my recycle bin every week.

2 people and 2 dogs seem to fill about 1 per week. I think we empty the recycling and compost more than the trash.

I garbage bag a week for a family of 4. It's a bit misleading though because every other week I put out a recyling bin. So it's basically 1 bag a week + another bag worth of recycling materials (cans, bottles, boxes, ect).

We're pretty low waste. I can't get over the people putting out 4 and 5 bags *every week*. What the hell do they do to generate so much trash?

Usually just one bag. I could probably get away with changing it every two weeks since my volume is so low, but food stuff starts to smell after a few days.

How the heck do you and one other person generate so much waste?

1-2 kitchen bags per week (food packaging and waste), 1 bag for other house waste baskets 1 bag in the garage for big stuff and pet waste.

the garage bag probably only gets thrown out once a month but it is 2-3 larger than a 13 gal bag

Just went to the dump this past weekend. Less than 1 garbage can of garbage, plus a lot of recycleables - mostly milk jugs. And, that was for 4 weeks. If it wasn't for a particular thing in my garbage which was attracting flies, I'd have waited another week. 2 person household, plus 9 dogs & a couple cats.

I don't buy kitchen sized garbage bags though - I reuse grocery store bags as garbage bags. As I said in another thread, and it seems evident now - some of you guys leave garbage sitting around in your house for a whole week??
