How much of a moron am I - bought a "generic" ipod nano {POLL}

Interesting...

1. As others said, can you actually put 4GB on it?
2. Is the display really OLED? seems doubtful considering those are expensive
3. Is the wheel "touch wheel" like in real iPod or not?
4. How is the sound if you get to it?

If the battery held the charge it might have been worth the money.

You're a tool in the first place for trying to get a product that mimics an iPod. Either be a sheep and buy an iPod or get something decent.

😕

He's first and foremost trying to find a cheap small-ish MP3 player. It just happens to look like an iPod...

hhaha ok after lookign at the pics i regonized it. these were posted somewhere like dailytech.com or maximumpc magazine or something. it is clear fake as you can tell the navigation works differenntly, and the screen is the incorrect proportion. what about the menus are thsoe diff?
owell it was only $50 use it for music and know better next time

And has an apple logo and says iPod on it. Its one thing to look similiar, its another to blatently make them look as identical as possible.

ummm...like fuzzybabybunny said, I realize it is not a real iPOD and I didn't get it just b/c it looks like an ipod and I'm trying to impress people or something. I wanted a cheap large capacity MP3 player. This one fit the bill.

I still find it hard to believe it really has a true 4GB capacity. Try copying 4GB worth of music onto it.

I know flash memory prices are down, but it's not at the $50 level yet. I don't see how a no-name eBay peddler is selling 4GB MP3 players for so little and turning a profit.

I'll give it a try. But remember that a) this is an auction, so it is possible he lost money on the one I won. and b) don't ask, don't tell policy 😉

i doubt he lost money, if he was selling it at a loss he probably wouldn't even send it...

So I bought a $8 replacement battery for it. Had a buddy sodder the thing in and it's good to go. I'm still getting used to the interface. It doesn't have "play lists" per se, but you can make folders and put the MP3s in the folders. Then set the player to play only that folder or play from every folder. If you want the song in multiple "playlists" you just have to put a copy of the song in multiple folders. The ear buds aren't great but aren't horrible, I think they just don't fit my ears very good b/c when I press them in my ears they sound decent but they seem to flop out a little.

Over all, a 4GB MP3 player (plus basically a flash drive, voice record, movie player, games, and FM radio) for around $58 shipped is a hot deal to me. Now we'll see how long it lasts...heh.

All you people who didn't believe in my krazy deal finding skillz can go walk to plank with the nearest pirate ship. 😉

How does it work? Does it use itunes?

yes it is fake. you just copy/paste in Explorer, it does not use itunes. Even though they guy sent me a copy of itunes with it, it doesn't appear to work with it.

Did you confirm it will hold ~4gb of data?

Well it didn't copy extremely fast. But I did get around 2.5GB on it. Let me double check over the weekend if I fill it up with 4GB if it still works properly or if it holds a "fake" amount of 4GB or gets corrupt when I try to push it to the limit of it's capacity.

I paid $107 for a refurbished 2GB off Apple.com....I think 1 year warranty + interface is worth the extra. The real advantage to having a real ipod, IMHO, is PODCAST.

edit: this was from ebay and it supposedly works just like a flash drive, don't need itunes for it. also plays videos and display pictures.

Am I allowed to link? I don't want anyone thinking I'm advertising for this guy. I don't even know if it's going to work out or not, but I was stoked to get this thing for this price.

Let me know if I need to remove this link.

edit: update on 10/30/06 - So I formatted it and it was indeed 4GB. It actually came in an IPOD box and has the apple/ipod inscribed on the device. Plus when you turn it on the Ipod/Apple screen comes up. However the menus are different from a real IPOD. The only problem I now have is that it doesn't hold a charge. Battery lasts like 3-5 minutes and that's it 🙁 --- I have a feeling it's going to be like pulling teeth to get a replacement, I'm tempted to buy a $8 battery from ebay and try it.

The Apple earbuds are equally useless. The first thing I do is toss that crap in the trash and go buy a pair of Sony earbuds from Frys. Those actually stay in your ear and sound just as good if not better.

It's a shame that people buy products from Chinese companies without any ethics, who not only steal another company's ideas and engineering work, but also steal their name.

Shame on you for propagating this crime. When the innovative companies all go under because their blood is sucked away by leeches, the imitators will all be buzzing around with nothing to imitate.
