residential noise abatement laws are your friend. Noise is noise. Be it loud music or car/motorcycle exhaust.

  • Call the police, multiple times when necessary. Do not be shy.
  • Inform the apartment complex management.
  • Shut off power to their unit. My building has a wall of power switches in the basement.
  • Get a can of that insulating foam spray from the hardware store and spray it into their keylock. The next time they go out, they will not be able to get back in. (This was someone else's idea in another thread.)

Blast louder music than them. Preferably something the opposite of what they would like. Then wear actual good earmuffs and earpluggs for lulz.

I haven't had problems with my neighbors and noise but I have a THX 9"subwoofer and would immediately start blaring Irish melodies or something if they habitually blared music. Might have to get 2 subwoofers or something and electronic earmuffs + earplugs. The war would be won let me assure you.

How does a thread like this get necro'd?

I understand if someone is searching for a particular solution and doesn't notice the date. However, how do you accidentally bump a thread about a random specific situation?

I don't recall what thread I was searching for, but this was found.
Need some sleep.

My next door neighbor (who claimed to be a professional musician lol?) used to practice trumpet (window fully open) from 8AM to 10PM. Although we live at a distance -- and my house is well-insulated -- it started driving me batty. So lacking in talent, he even made playing scales sound bad.

Anyway, I started wearing earplugs and was able to concentrate again. The trumpeter moved after only a year, but I had gotten into the habit of wearing earplugs. Til this day I get a much sounder sleep when wearing them. :)

Glad to have gotten that off my chest, now you can lock the thread. :)

Stop being such a bitch. Kick their door in, find the person whos in charge, get up in his face and if he does not comply, smash his fucking stereo. whats so god damn hard about that? wait till they throw a party and you may get some pussy. shit!

Edit - I just looked at your sig and performed a face palm.

Edit II - *sigh*

Had to do this in my last house, a couple of Polish lads moved in next door renting and had a couple of parties on friday nights, they even popped round to invite us to the parties which I declined as drinking with 30 people who speak little to no English isn't my ideal night out. I was working the next day on both occasions and went round about 1-2AM on both occasions to tell them to keep it down. They were really appologetic and turned the music off on both occasions.

A couple of weeks later they decided to hook up surround sound and a sub to their playstation. I went round twice in the early hours to ask them to turn the sub down as they had it pushed up against the adjoining wall to my house which caused them to turn the sound off completely. The third time I went round I wasn't so polite and the guy wouldn't even open his front door until I threatened to pull him through it (It had a large glass panel in the top). I told him if I heard the sub after midnight again I was going to kick his door in and kick the crap out of him. They moved out a couple of weeks later although I presume this was because the neighbours the other side had complained to the landlord.

I lived in an apartment where the neighbor moved in next door and ALL DAY AND NIGHT he was banging around, moving furniture, dragging things across the floor and hammering nails into walls (presumably to hang pictures).

By 11 PM I was pretty fed up but decided to give them half an hour more (quiet hours begin at 11 PM) before I went over there. I was pleasantly surprised it stopped and didn't resume. But before I knew it the guy started up with the hammering and furniture moving AGAIN at 1:00 AM waking me up. I was so pissed off I went over there and knocked on his door in my pajamas.

I tried to be as civil as possible explaining that he may be new here but this place has a quiet hours rule. He tried to tell me he has a truck that he needs to return to the rental place tomorrow morning and needs to finish moving tonight (I guess he needed to finish unloading and moving furniture out of it or else he would incur an extra rental fee). I told him that 1 AM was not the time in an occupied apartment building to be causing this level of noise. Furthermore I have to go to work tomorrow and you woke me up. He still doesn't understand and asks me for my "permission" to continue some more work so he could finish up. I just about blew a gasket almost. Permission, you want permission from me to bang around at 1:00 AM, how about I ask your "permission" to call the cops and start complaining to the landlord if I hear more construction noise this late at night?!?! He got a little pissy and said he would "try to keep it down" with this smug look on his face. What an asshole. Everytime I saw him later on, he would give me the evil eye. Fuck you dude!! You wake me up with incessant hammering, what do you expect me to do?? o_O:eek::mad:

He was probably just cleaning the carpet like his landlord wanted.

Apartment noise is something you gamble with.

Step 1. Put up with it
Step 2. Face to face contact
Step 3. Talk to landlord
Step 4. File a noise complaint and use your name as a victim with police
Step 5. Move out, ask for $$ back on deposit and break contract due to inability to provide peaceful housing
Step 6. Sue Sue Sue Sue SUE
Step 7. Depression
Step 8. Alcohol/drugs
Step 9. Attend a 10 Step program
Step 10. Repeat step 1
