If unmarked just go through them one by one. When the music stops make a note of it.

When they become disruptive shut off the power.
And if they continue to be disruptive, feed 240V into their main power feed. Then enjoy silence for considerably longer. :)

Just....you know, don't leave fingerprints. And if they have cameras, I'd suggest finding some means of stealthfully warping electromagnetic radiation. That, and maybe find a really good lawyer. ;)

and i for one will be so happy the police knocked on a door and said "keep it down" while people got killed by DUI's and your wife/mom/gf got raped since the cops were too busy

You should seriously consider moving out of Bedford-Stuyvesant.

You know how it takes 30+ minutes for the police to arrive when you call them for something like this, but only 3-5 minutes when its an emergency. Its because the police aren't fucking morons and understand the concept of priority.

Owned.

I would also keep a little running tab of the level of their noise, what hours and how long it goes on for. If your landlord doesnt do anything about them you might have grounds to break your lease without suffering any negative consequences.

Dude, WTF? I've had the cops called on me because my roommate was being a douchebag. That's what it takes for some people that aren't considerate. Go down there and tell them face to face their subwoofer is way too loud and you can hear it constantly. If you can still hear it after your talk, I promise, you will have no reservations about calling the cops or the landlord. The only reason you feel guilty about talking action now is because you haven't properly addressed the issue in the first place. No, a note does not fucking count.

edit: I've lived in many appartments in a college town, and I've seen people get quite involved when it comes to regulating the noise. I think their actions are always justified and within reason. It's not weird to not want to hear some BS subwoofer all day. Most likely, you're not the only one that can hear them...

Between the noise complaints and the assaulting a tennant the property manager should have enough sense to file an eviction before another tennant gets hurt from this loose cannon. Also have a chat with the property manager about your sleeping shift requirements so they can take that into consideration when placing new tennants in that unit.

You want quiet, move into your own house, at least, 2000 feet away from anyone else, and be sure your at least 5 miles from railroads, and Highways.

You live in the city, and not your own house, your going to have to deal with some noise.

I have an empty second floor here, and have not tried to find a roommate,
because I want my quiet/privacy.

Ask the landlord if he can get celullose insulation blown into the space between your ceiling, and their floor.

Further to this thread where my neighbours had a psycho party that was obviously unacceptable, I don't know what level of music I should just deal with. My neighbours are playing their music on their loud stereo 16 hours a day now. To give you an idea of the volume, it's loud enough in certain songs I can just make out the lyrics, but usually I can just hear the continuous rumble for 16 hours a day of their subwoofer. They usually quit around midnight, apartment quiet hour is 11PM. If they didn't have that fucking subwoofer it wouldn't even bother me, but the noise just comes right through the floor into my apartment.

Because of my complaint and their wild party, my land lord served them a warning today. If they aren't quiet, they'll be evicted. Well, guess what, tonight they're even louder than their standard level of music. They obviously aren't too worried about getting evicted.

I'm a shift worker so this daytime continuous level of music destroys my sleep. I know as a shift worker there's less consideration given to me, but it boils down to either them getting evicted or me finding a new place to live. I can't sleep here anymore. I don't take any pleasure in getting someone evicted and I really don't want to lead to that...but it's them or me it seems.

I left a note a couple months ago about their music and it's loudness to which they were quiet for awhile, but now they're loud again all the time. I'm out of options. I've also discovered they are insane and assaulted my neighbour, so I'm not exactly wanting to go over there and make nice.

Grab the neutral and attach it to the other hot leg. 90-250V devices will survive this but if they are plugged into a surge protector designed for 120VAC its MOVs will clamp hard and pop a fuse.

Considering they have already assaulted one neighbor they have lost that right and the police should be called on them at every opportunity.

I for one avoid confrontation with douchebags like this. In my experience these are the same drunken "frat boys" that will fuck with your car in the middle of the night if you get on their bad side. I just call the police in situations like this and let them deal with it. If it was a house or condo it would be different and I'd probably talk to the person first, but apartment renters are somewhat transient and come and go. Overall I've seen more douchebags in apartments that don't care about other people than in houses.

Call the landlord. Explain the situation. Give him the 'ol "It's me or them" line and they'll have an eviction notice the next day.

Get yourself a machete and cut off their hands ... that way they cant dial up the music. Or perhaps you could pull the fuse to their power supply

Sometimes in apartments, especially older apartments, the circuit boards are in public accessible areas.....

Disclaimer: The machete thing was a JOKE, i do not condone violence,

Yeah if you can get to the meter pull it out and put hacksaw blades across the socket (not across the lines!) and call the power company and report them for theft of power.

Depending on where you live, it is unlawful to cause too much noise after specific hours that deter you from sleeping. You can technically sue, if you so inclined to.

Figures this type of response would come from someone who lives in a place where houses go for 150K. It's easy to avoid apartment living when your mortgage is less than $1000 a month. Try living in NYC, SF, or LA. My down payment here in Socal could buy your house in Texas.

Go to their apartment, knock on the door, get in, crap on the floor, leave.

Or, call the landlord again ... like 80% of the other people are saying
