How much longer do you think it will before humans 'live' forever?

Seems to me like this would be something that maybe my childs great great grandson might be able to see, but I dont think it is something I will ever see.

All the brain is essentially is is a chemical computer. There are already drugs out there that alter the way our brains function... and no I am not talking about alcohol or illegal drugs. We already know how to manipulate the way a person can think through the use of chemicals. So how long before we can store all experiences a person lives to see/learn. Test tube 'brain dead' people I am certain can be made using already present technology. Kinda like the person professor X said on X-Men... a otherwise perfectly normal person with no brain activity who is alive and he asks the students if it would be moral to transfer to the terminal person who has a wife and kids to the brain dead person.. dont remember exactly how it went.. been forever since I seen the show.

Anyways it seems like something that can be done down the road. Kinda like a copy/paste of the brain.
I do not think that people who get transfered would be the same person again after the transfer. The new host would only have all the memories, but all brains function differently. It is safe to assume with a different brain, said person would not ever think the same way again.

Noctural, I do not think cloning is needed.
And ZeroIQ, I dont want to live to see that time... lol. Just think if they screw up in the process, I wish to continue being a male... and the copy/paste my mind into a female... I do not know if I would be able to go for the putting on bra's instead of taking them off typa deal... just for starters...

1:they need to finish completely mapping the human genome
2:figure out a way to record memories from the brain to a computer
3:take your DNA, make a new one of you, re-insate your memories

I say within 50 years, you will be able to regenerate yourself with the way technology is going

I think successful anti-aging treatments are more likely than being able to transfer the mind between bodies. Although if they get into injecting cultured cells to replace your own I suppose the line between the two would be blurred anyway.

Lol...
Noctural, I think you dont want my friend Naomi to be cloned either... I asked her one day if I were to clone you, what would be the first thing you do with your clone. She sat there a second and her eyes popped right open and answered. I would take advantage of myself with a really big smile. Needless to say her answer shocked all of us there, including her husband

Adam Gibson: You should clone yourself now, while you're still alive.
Drucker: Why, so I can share your unique perspective?
Adam Gibson: No, so you can go screw yourself.

The problem with your thinking is that you believe a biological brain will be transferred to another biological brain. This will not happen. What will happen is a transfer of the biological brain to an engineered substrate. A computer. The typical term for this is 'uploading', there's plenty of information about the idea. As to when this would occur, it's hard to say, it could very well be progressive with gradual modification and substitution for artificial brain components. I would say it could be possible to completion by 2030 through destructive scanning and probably no later than 2050 as a conservative estimate.

As for reversing biological aging, the complexity appears too great and impractical compared to the alternative. I do not think this will happen at all.

I think it'll be more like bicentennial man. The whole idea of "transfering" your brain to something else is just so out there. I don't see how it can happen.

artificial hearts, liver, other organs, I think is much more possible. There already an artificial heart though it went into a person who was near death.

"Hey Jim! You were in an accident, so we had to download you to a new body. Unfortulately, the latest backup of your brain failed, so we had to use a 10 year old copy."
"So what happened in the last 10 years? Am I still married to that chore of a woman?"
"I'm afraid so, sir."
"@#%!"

It was not in human nature to leave the planet either, yet through techological advancements we can do so now. Not to mention many other things.

Shocking. They're helping ill people now?

Never. If it wasn't part of human nature to die, then mankind would have to invent it.
Mankind would have to invent what, death? That shouldn't be a challenge.

Death has always been, and ALWAYS will be, the great equalizer. There is no avoiding it, and I think that is great. I suppose it is possible to get around it, but I doubt it will happen in my lifetime! (I estimate that I have about 55-70 years left...)

It isn't a matter of technological advancement. It is a matter of will. People simply will not possess the will to live forever.

'will' can be modified at will 🙂

By definition. That doesn't really affect the point, however.

A select few have already been offered "extended life" by the aliens destroying us from within.

If you can think of a better reason why Colin Powell would throw a lifetime`s credibility and respect out the window at the UN, I`m all ears.

🙂

Our body parts are already on the verge of being replicatable, so my guess would be, amazing things could occur in our lifetime. 🙂

Now if only we could get the mormons and mexicans to stop breeding at such an alarming rate......

Seriously, the mentality of most logical people is to leave people who progress after them, not feed world overpopulation.
My belief has always been, within +/- 1, only produce enough offspring to replace yourselves. (assuming a husband and wife).

Some might be wondering about the husband and wife part. Well, it's possible to get pregnant from anal sex. Where do you think GWB came from? 😉
