My family stuck with VHS till about 2002, we've gone DVD ever since. Still got a large collection though.

Also, my local Blockbuster still has a lot of the less popular/known movies on VHS, although they are switching over.

That's why I don't think VHS will die until tivo/dvr is in most homes.

i was at a customers house the other day fixing their satellite service, and they still have a betamax player that theyre running the cabling through for some reason....made me wonder if it would still play a tape, if they had one around.

Once porn is no longer produced on VHS, it's done. I would guess another year or two. Porn is one of the reasons VHS beat beta max.

Trailing thought..........

Tivo...........tape show, watch it, delete it.

VCR........tape show, watch it, give it to friend to watch, to 'nother friend to watch, etc. etc. then tape over it.

Can't just "hand" a tape over to your friend w/ Tivo??????

Good thought.........though one DVD player may not play a DVD burned on a different machine.

No such issue w/ VHS.

(Hey, maybe VHS should stick around forever???) :p
