My dad's worked so hard for what we have, I'm moved to tears every time I think about it. He grew up in China, so poor that his only toy was an empty aspirin bottle that he would fill and empty, refill and empty, in a little stream nearby. His mother (who raised my dad alone, since his father had 4 other wives) almost sold him to a richer family when he was eight, in the hope that he'd have a better life. Thank goodness she kept him (!!), and worked hard her entire life to save up enough to send him to the USA for a college education (his sister didn't get to go, there wasn't enough money). It's really incredible what some people are capable of, if given the opportunity to achieve. I love my daddy. 🙂

Came free with the refrigerator.

Wow.. that's a huge house happykitten. Moving story too.

Parents own two houses, one in Pacifica, CA. Other in Manteca, CA. I believe the one in Pacifica is worth around $350k. The one I'm living at right now, house in Manteca, is around $280k. We bought it for $190k in January of '99. It's gone up $90k in two years.. 🙂

About 1300 SF. Probably about $115,000

I will be moving it to California next week to sell it for three times that.

size: not sure. 3 bedroom 2 bath. Not huge but a nice size. 2 car garage. great location.
cost: $800,000+
location: San Francisco, ca

Parents' house is worth probably close to 100K, about 1650 sq. ft.

The one I'm looking to buy later this year is about 1300 sq. ft., and around $56K...

Housing is CHEAP here! 😀

Dave

Move it to California. That's both funny and a good idea.

Buying a house in two months. Mathis, TX. Two story total of 2200 sq.ft. on an acre and a half.
65,000 bucks, worth about 110,000, being sold by an old couple who can't climb the stairs anymore. They want to buy a trailer (it's a trailer in Texas; in CA I think what they want would be called a "manufactured home&quot😉.

Da*m, you guys that live in CA need to get the h*ll outta there!!! Your real estate agents are stealing from you!!!

2500 square feet, 5 bedroom 5 full bath, 1 acre, drive under 2 car garage. Purchased at 149000 March 31 99, now valued at 175000.

my parents just bought a brand new 5 bedroom place, for 600000 . Its pretty nice, wired for cat5, but me and my dad still have to add the faceplates for the ethernet ports. Southern california. I'm told for a 3200 square foot or so house, its dirt cheap by bay area standards.

2,500 sq. ft., 4 bedrooms, 3 full baths, 2 car garage on half-acre lot. Price paid 6 years ago = $89,000.

As you can see from the picture, it's a lovely place. -->🙂<--

😀

2534sq ft ,we paid 226,000 2 years ago when it was brand new, should be worth about 235 or so.

We live South of Seattle.

3200sf
3BDRM
2Story
3Bath

Needs a garage though. We're working on that.

Citrus Heights, Ca

$330-340K

1 Acre, which is rare in CA. We actually have some space between neighbors. I like that! 🙂
I can listen to my music at an alarming level and not bother anyone.

Damn glad I bought when I did MrAnderson! Looks like housing went up 40% citywide! I bought in a Twin Cities suburb 3 houses in from what was the "milder ghettos" of North Minneapolis. They leveled 5X2 blocks of the "ghetto" and are putting in small 1200 sq ft 3 bedroom houses that will market for $130-$140k.

2500 sq ft
1.5 story brick 4BR, 2BA w/2 fireplaces
Bought for $105,000 2yrs ago
Market value $140,000 now
Estimated market value when the housing development is completed:
around $160-175K.

Now if Uncle Sam can just transfer me to a small midwestern town with a cheap cost of living for my retirement tour with the military so I can see my investment payoff!

I'd actually like to get out of here. We've been here for less than 1 year, and traffic and people, frankly drive me crazy. It was cool getting close to supply here in "Silicon Valley", but I'd gladly trade it to live in a smaller, less congested area, even if I had to next day air all my supplies.

So, where is a place that is very livable with a low housing cost?

BTW, this guy loves to fish and could care less about being a "City Slicker".

It doesn't matter where I go, since my income is not geographically limited. 🙂
