Can't believe I locked my keys in my car..

First time...

I know I should have a sprare, but I never got around to it.

So anyways, how much would a locksmith charge tonight 1:30AM

and would it be a lot cheaper if I waited till business hours ?

Don't have AAA? They can use a slim jim, if you are in a nice suburb the police can use slim jim's too... but I have seen them tear apart locks :(

If you can, I would wait during the day, but I have never called a locksmith. I end up finding a metal hanger, unbending it and unlocking car using that.

Gonna probably be a lot more if you have to call and wake the locksmith up right now. Need to go somewhere now?

Thanks, Ross

BTW. I'm in Fredericksburg now.

Guess I'll wait.. maybe I can call around in the morning and get prices without
worrying about waking people up.

I would now but you gotta wait 3 days for it to activate

Do you have a pick & wrench set? Know of anyone who does? You probably could pick the lock if you had a good hour or so to play with it. I'm surprised a slim jim didn't work, electric locks shouldn't matter (although I guess yours very well could have a different design).

One piece of advice, do it on the passenger side of the car, not the driver side...

using the slim jim can potentially damage your locks... better to damage the passenger side door than the driver side...

And electronic locks dont matter, it should still work... My friend did this one to his prelude, and we called what's equivalent to AAA here... they used the slim jim to open up his car, only took like 5 mins... but his locks didnt work properly after that...

Yeah, good advice...Always try on the passenger side.

His locks didn't work quite right? Did he try opening up the door panel & seeing if he could fix it? Door locks are pretty simple devices & I think anyone with a little mechanical awareness should be able to fix most problems.

Ok.. called a locksmith this afternoon

They quoted me on the phone $45

Didn't seem like a bad deal to me.

The guy camr out and he was super l33t.

My keys were lying on the seat..
He made a spare key just by looking in the window and seeing my keys.

Plus he only charged me $35 ..sweet

In Richmond, a lot of locksmiths use the SAME dispatch service. So most of the prices were the same.

Join AAA or use a friend's.

He made a spare key for you and opened up your door without using a slim jim??? That's amazing!

What did he made the spare key out of???

No, he didnt try to open up the door panels... plus he totalled his car shortly afterwards so there was no need to anymore... :)

There's always more than one way to fix the problem ;)

He just looked in the window.. saw my keys on the seat..
Saw how my key was cut..

Then made a spare key. (regular spare key /metal)

Only took him 2 tries.

Plus, he gave me the spare.
