Ours is $715 and is very nice. The top of the line ones in birmingham I think are around $850 but you can get ones for less than $715 but will get quickly deteriorating location/housing.

good god.
I pay $765 for a 2 bedroom in suburban Orlando (actually southeast edge of Winter Park for anyone familiar with the area) and it's actually more expensive than most others around here.

I am seriously considering moving to AL or something. For the price of a 600 sq ft apartment in NYC I can get a three bedroom house with a yard and fresh air. Maybe when I meet a Mrs. Dwell I will do it.

Why only large cities? I'm not really a city girl, I prefer smaller places where I can get to the mountains within an hour of driving if I want to (I live in Las Vegas, the population for the whole area is under 2 million).

Area population here is 9 million in Chicago metro (not my stat, from skyscapers.com). I've lived in smaller cities and I've found that they don't have as much to do. I'm used to having lots of neighborhoods and a ton of things to do. The shopping here is a lot better than most cities. I like having different ethnicities, and tons of restaurants to choose from. I like having 2 baseball teams in my hometown :) I like the constant hussle and bussle, even if the cab drives do almost kill me. I like the extra cultural benefits of having several major universities in town.

Thats why I like big cities.

I have to admit mountains, especially skiing, sounds fun if I want nature I can always get away to say Wisconsin or Michigan to get into the backwoods. Sometimes its dangerous here, but honestly overall I'm not even too scared of the bad parts of town. I wouldn't trade it for a small town, or a small city.

We spend about $1850/month for a three bedroom house (plus utilities including phone and DSL) that has somewhere around 1500 sq. ft. with a small driveway for two cars. We have a rooftop patio as well.

It would probably be cheaper if we were buying on the local economy as Japanese because they gouge the Americans living here. The government is paying though, so thanks everyone for your tax dollars. :D

It depends on where you live. I was in a 1250 sq. ft. apartment that cost me $555 a month but I have seen them cheaper and more exspensive.

about $600, and that's a relatively nice place. No washer/drier in apt, but nice place.

WAY too much for WAY too little here in Berkeley. For a DECENT place close to campus... ~2000 dollars.
