Your deposit is fine. The banks reconcile all physical deposits in the ATM with a daliy printout from the ATM of all deposits.

It's not so much that I don't trust the ATM, I just don't want to use it. I take cash out of it, nothing else.

Cheques to ATM and cash to tellers. Was "taught" this by mother; people got sticky fingers and can easily get away with syphoning cash away.

I've never done it. All of my checks have been direct deposit.

Any check I have other than payroll I just go to the teller because I don't want to bother with deposit slips.

I always use the ATM, hate using a teller. I do both cheques and cash. The only security measure I take is I do not sign the cheques so it cannot be deposited into any account but mine.

I had an ordeal doing this a few months back with Washington Mutual. I deposited 2 checks in one envelope, but only typed in the amount for 1 (my fault, obviously). Well I called them a few days later and had them verify that there were 2 checks and to correct the amount deposited. They did an "investigation" and after a few days (I had to call back - thanks) told me that only 1 check was received in the envelope. BS. I questioned their auditing process and they assured me it was a good process and it was handled correctly. I had to tell someone to cancel that check (since I now don't know where it is) and to write me another - he sent it in the mail again. A few days after that, Wamu sends me a letter saying that the other check was found.

Great. Perfect. The problem now is that there's a stop-payment order from that person since I told him to. What a mess. In the end, they said the original check went through but wait a few more days to make sure. Yeah, I have so much patience with you guys after this.

Moral of the story (aside from making sure you type in the correct amount), is that you should not trust the bank to do a true investigation when asked. They just don't want it to be their fault. I don't know how that helps them or me, but that's what it seemed like when I talked to them on the phone.

If it's in a large amount, hand it to a teller who will do the math too.

All ATM deposits are processed manually, just like teller. So no big deal.

Ive made thousands of deposits (checks and cash), and never once have had a problem.

All of them have been under a thousand dollars. If I were to deposit something more than a few thousand bucks, I might think about going inside...

ATM does pretty much all that I need to do in terms of banking. The only time I ever talk to a teller is if I need specific denominations, usually for wedding gifts.

0.9% is high... I think TD is at 0.05%

I never go to the bank when it's open so ATMs are my only choice. Honestly, I couldn't care less if my bank actually had human beings inside of it.

I'm fine with taking money from an ATM, but I don't trust ATMs when it comes to putting money in. For that I'll go to a real teller, even walking inside of the building instead of using the drive-through.:Q

I've used an ATM for deposits for years - when I worked 3rd shift, getting to a bank during business hours was a pain, so I'd just use the ATM.

Now I use direct deposit whenever I can, so any kind of visit to the bank is rare.

I have used ATM's for at least 20 years for deposits and withdrawals. I can't recall there ever being an error.

I was shorted 100 bucks from a tube teller once.

The bank was cool. "are you sure?" "Yep".

They closed the teller's drawer and counted it right there (compared to what should be in her drawer). Got my 100 spot.

psst... (yes I'm the guy with the trouble from above) see if they really audit things... type in a larger amount than you're actually depositing. :D

I make a point to deposit it into ATM's that are attached to the bank.

The ones that are in the islands in the drive through are serviced via a contracted company and not the bank directly, which tends to lead to more errors and thefts.

My wife's father works on ATM's for a living and swears up and down by this.
