27 yrs old, 2000 Sebring Convertible, Allstate (full coverage) at $479 per 6 months
I was living overseas for 5 years w/o driving until last month, so I lacked continuous auto coverage so that cost me an extra $80 to $100 per period but I have a perfect driving record so I still don't pay too much.
This month was the first time I purchased auto insurance on my own, so I did some research. Some of you might be interested that:
-rates in CA or NY are roughly double than around where I live in AL / TN area according to my agent
-convertibles are generally speaking more expensive to insure than a standard coupe
-car color doesn't matter (used to always hear "red is more expensive" when I was a teen)
-allstate gave me the best rate, progressive was the next best price
-it changes depending on company, but in allstate's case you only get a discount for car alarm or window VIN Etching if it was installed from the factory. So if you're buying a new car, those would probably be smart investments
-Ameriprise is the company I intend to contact next time. They are the inurance company provided by American Express and Costco. Word has it they are one of the cheapest around, and if you have a Costco membership you can 10% off your premium, basically more than paying for your membership. I get some reward points for my AMEX card just for getting a quote, so nothing to lose, but I won't need to ask until 6 months later
I'd also like to time the time to brag that I nabbed that Sebring earlier this month for only $6000 @ 78,000 miles
