How much do you keep in your checking vs. savings account?

Do you keep most of your money in your savings account, or in your checking account?

i.e. If you have $2,000, what % do you keep in checking/savings? 50/50? $1,000 in checking, and $1,000 in savings?

Is it even worth it to keep $$$ in savings? I've kept about $1,000 in my savings account at Washington Mutual for the past few years, and have earned maybe $2 in interest. 😵 Is it worth switching to an ING Direct savings account online?

with my credit union, i have one savings account i dont touch under any circumstances. another savings account that has the same amount as my primary savings but ill move money out of in case of an emergency. and a regular checking account. i allot myself a few hundred dollars every month in my checking account for me to live off of. i dont like to specify how much money i exactly have, but lets just say both savings accounts are well into the 4 digits from the decimal point. 😀

All in checking.
Fiance keeps most in savings since her paycheck goes towards the wedding fund, while mine goes towards all the bills and daily living expenses.

Keep $4K - $10K in checking

Every few months I move$5K or so to Savings. I earn 2.25% on my savings in a High Yield Money Market Fund

ING Orange savings account. 2.35% PM me for referral. 😉

I keep very little in my checking account, as I pay for everything with my credit card and then every time I get paid I dump the money on my CC. Any spare money goes to savings, and thus I rarely have more than $100 I could take out of chequing without a check or something bouncing.

I charge evrything to my CC and pay it off every month. The remaining money from the previous salary (after all bills, rent and CC are paid) goes into savings.

Its not based on percentages...

I keep $1-$1.5k in checking...

everything else goes into savings / investments.

well both accounts are liquid assets.. so if i am keeping it for keeps sake(long term), it goes into one of my savings, either the ING Direct or the savings acct at my bank. Most likely ING direct since it has a higher APR.

If i am goign to use it soon (within the next week or two), i just keep it where ever.

$2500 in savings just to keep the balance, with everything else going into checking. I just keep the savings around for show. My checking earns more interest.

Ok, i have both types of accounts. Everything is in chequing, what's the diff; between the two?

Checking usually gives your 0 to very little interest. Savings accounts will give you more. Depending on how much you have, even a bank savings interest rate is very little. I suggest putting your money in ING Direct.
