A64 2800+- $130
Thermalright XP-120- $50
DFI LANPARTY UT- $109
2x512MB - $110
1x1024MB- $155
WD SE 100GB/8MB- $10
WD SE 120GB/2MB- $40
SB Live 5.1- $15
Leadtek Win2000XP- $4
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro- $180
Pioneer 16x DVD-ROM- $25
Plexar DVDRW- $65
Floppy- $2
Thermaltake Tsunami Dream- $129
Thermaltake 420w Silent Purepower- $10
Altec Speakers- $20
Logitech Wireless Keyboard/Mouse- $35
19" KDS CRT Flat Screen- $105

Total: $1196

Keep in mind that I'm a poor college student who is on a budget and such and basically bought these one at a time and shopped around A LOT.

Over paid on the 2800+ only because it came as a combo with a generic white case and a 500W generic PSU. Trying to sell the PSU, so that will subract from the grand total. But still, I think I have an awesome gaming rig for the price I paid. And I plan to OC my 2800+ when my DFI comes in.

video cards are way too overpriced. seems like the cost of the video card accounts for 1/3 of the cost of the entire pc.

Lol, yeah, check out the 6800s and the X800s price. There's no way I could afford one of those. Too bad there isn't a midrange between the 9800s/fx5900s and the 6800s/x800s that are AGP and NOT PCI-E.

Videocards sort of are a PC all in one card. Processor (newer GPU's have more than twice the number of transistors than a P4 does), with integrated cache and memory controller, a high speed memory bus, very fast RAM, and a high speed RAMDAC.

I typically spend 200-250 on CPU, 130 on mainboard, 230 on RAM, 40 on harddrive. Case and power supply gets reused, lets say 120 for both. Video cards 180.

That makes about $1000.

heh, second-hand for $500 AUD (peanuts in yank dosh i suspect :) ):

xp2000+ (running at 2600+ on stock hsf)
256MB RAM
ASUS A7V8X
CD-RW
Nice black aluminium case
380w PSU (dodge tho)
IBM E74 17' CRT
GF4 MX440
20GB Seagate 5400rpm drive

but since then i've dropped in 512MB RAM, 9800 pro, DVD, 160GB WD and 2 case fans, which all up would have cost me ~$800 AUD :)
