if you were hungry you would.

And I have. 🙂

I used to get out of bed for a job that paid 11 bucks an hour. These days 70k is peanuts but I know people that have jobs where they are earning ~1700USD a day and paying flat tax rates in countries like south korea.

Actually if the US wants a good example of having a low flat tax rate and no social safety net. Look no further than south korea.

Does this make me sound like an arrogant arsehole? I am merely making a point and cannot stand mais endless posts about becoming a fantasy millionaire just by thinking big.

It's kind of irrational though. Isn't it?

no social safety net? wow. oh...

Healthcare in South Korea. ... The South Korean healthcare system is run by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and is free to all citizens at the point of delivery. The system is funded by a compulsory National Health Insurance Scheme that covers 97% of the population.

Thanks for googling that dude. I will sleep well tonight. They do have a flat tax rate though. Yeah?

Also can you find out if they have a pension there? Cheers.

So yeah. It's actually a family member who works in places like singapore and south korea. They earn 500k+ a year and there are guys that they work with from countries such as thailand and the phillipines who are earning ~1700USD a day as well and they retire by the time they are 40.

Due to the living costs in the countries they are from they can do that.

There is a lot of money to be made but thinking big isn't going to do that for you. Having the education and skills to design the control systems for oil rigs will though. Just an example.

Further more there are some guys over from HQ which is in europe over here at the moment and they cannot beleive how expensive everything is over here. We went out for a meal at a steakhouse and it cost ~250$ and they couldn't believe it. I was over there last year and we would go out for meals

There is a safety net and then there isn't. I started using drugs when I was fifteen dropped out of high school and ended up in a succession of shit jobs. Developed a wicked meth habit etc. Then I got clean. Went to university. Got a degree in computer science of all things. Now I pay 50k a year in tax but it's still nothing on what my family member makes. Nothing. Dude is killing it. You should see their house. Where am I going with this....I don't know other than life can be hard but it's also what you make it.

There is no such thing as being a fantasy millionaire......I have personally spent time crawling around on the floor picking up lint. What does that mean exactly? I don't know...... I get the feeling mai has never experienced life in it's rawest form. 🙂 In fact most people haven't at least as far as liberal democracies go......

If you have lived hand to mouth and been so poor that you are wearing donated clothes then maybe you will get it. Maybe not though.... 🙂

You sure you're clean...

Welcome to the libertarian club. Seems like you’ve already come to recognize both right and left wingers are authoritarians who have built their entire worldview around childish and cartoony heuristics like “I’m for the little guy” or “family values” and are both dangerous for different reasons.

libertarians are just liberals with bad math that have completely shed all personal claim on humanity. The (bad) data is all that matters. Data points are data points: not actual people.

I thought libertarians are conservatives who like to smoke pot?

From what I've gathered, libertarians can be anything you or they want them to be. Just requires, bad math, pot, and no soul.

edit: oh and anarchy. thanks, mect.

Bad math? You mean good math?

The war on drugs should be ended.

I'm a nonbeliever, I don't believe in a soul, but what do you mean by this comment exactly?

Libertarians are what people call themselves that are too embarrassed to call themselves Republicans. It used to be the opposite, which is how you got the Ron Paul types. Ask them enough questions and they will reveal their ingrained Republican talking points.

Ask me questions, and I look for answers. I spent enough time looking and finding no detailed response from Republicans. Opps. I wanted to believe them... but they presented nothing to believe in. That was the shocker.

Party: It'll trickle down, honest!
Me: Because?
Party: *blank stare.
Me: ...

Fertile ground for Robert Reich to swoop in and explain what's actually happening. Scary part was it fit like a glove.

Agreed. They are Libertarian up until the point the are espousing right wing talking points, carrying GOP water pails, and calling people that present facts and truth leftist hippies...

Libertarian ideals are probably closest to the what our constitution stands for. I have some Libertarian in me, I think the way we look at is that government is there to protect our rights so we can go about our lives how we see fit while Democrats think government is there to provide their basic needs and then some. Republicans are a big mix from small government types to wanting as big of government as the left, just as authoritarian in different ways.

We provide basic needs. The and then some is giving a hand to help people rise out of poverty. That should be a big focus.

What do you do for a living?

glad you kicked your meth habit. I know that must of been very hard. As for the rest of your post I'm not following it too much. Dont do meth.

His post was basically, drugs can fuck up your life, doing the worst things to feed the habit, but there's Hope and a strong support system aids in turning a new leaf.

And I guess this is where I disagree, at least to some degree. My view is government shouldn't be a provider of needs, but protect your right to achieve and live your life how you see fit. I'm a strong believer of doing what you want in life if you're not affecting the rights of others or putting them at a risk of affecting their rights. I don't think government is responsible for your healthcare, providing you with a cell phone, paying your rent, covering your grocery bill, etc. I am realistic in needing a safety net to help get people back on their feet, though.

I work in IT, networking specifically.

Government shapes society in the ways we want via voting. I would hope smart money being spent on pulling people out of poverty would be seen as a net positive to fiscal conservatives. It just makes sense to me.

The problem with guys like you is you think your way is the true way when its just another way. The true way is the way we all shake things out in the government. You enjoy highway experts that make the turn of the road an exact angle so you can see enough road in front of you so you could brake during an emergency at that speed. You benefit from the nih doing basic science research. You benefit from the cdc creating flu shots. You benefit from numerous food related regulations. You benefit from a stable economy.

There are many reasons why we need government beyond "freedumb"

If we had a government this limited in scope, we would be a developing nation.

It's a great idea, it's not even close to how things work in reality. You're an idealist, not a realist.
