I don't drink it much, but when I do its with a healthy dose of cream and sugar. To where it it caramel colored. I don't enjoy straight up coffee, just not good to me. Perhaps I need to acquire a taste for it, but just don't want to.

Which is 100% opposite of how I drink liquor. I drink it straight, with no mixer. Save for a few very high percentage wise liquors.
 
While I absolutely LOVE the smell of roasting coffee beans, I didn't start drinking coffee until I was in my mid 30s. So, it's strictly utilitarian for me. I generally buy Folgers dark roast in the ginormous plastic pail, and I adulterate that non-boutique shiat with liberal doses of milk, sugar, and chocolate shavings. MMMMMilkshake.
 
while I agree with this, shitty coffee that must be saved by cream/sugar is better than no coffee at all.
I dunno . . . to me "no coffee at all" is also a viable choice. 😛

I had a coworker who used to get TWO extra large triple triples at Tim Horton's in the morning. He would chug the first one, like, literally chug it. I don't know how he did that, a fresh coffee from Tim's is freaking hot. Sure the 3 creamers and 3 sugars would cool it down a bit, but still. Then he'd sip on the 2nd one, like any normal person. But he always had that first one to chug, to really give that extra morning kick lol.

I do something similar, but not as extreme. Order a cortado, pound it, take a large vanilla or hazelnut latte to go.

Oh, man, yeah, Turkish coffee, as opposed to coffee juice, lawls! I had it regularly in Turkey and Greece (ironically, Turkey's sworn enemy) and really took to it. So, maybe I'd really like "American style" coffee big, black and manly if, like stargazr, I had a friend challenge me to. But, I don't care . . . enough . . . it's "coffee-like" Folgers with tons of additives for meeeeee! 😛

I vividly remember both Turks and Greeks putting a square cube of sugar between their teeth and sipping that near sludge through it! You could eat the remains at the bottom of that tiny, tiny glass.

Bracing! It'll put extra hair on your balls! Turkish coffee is the manly man's brew. Only espresso from those decadent Italians comes even close. 😀

Re: the milk and sugar, if drinking american coffee, I put a little cream in it and no sugar and nothing else (flavoring etc...). Im sure I can be persuaded to drink it black but I generally dont. I also drink espresso and turkish coffee alot and take those black, no sugar at all.

IMO coffee should still taste like coffee. I see people dumping sugar and coffee until all of the bitterness is gone and it resembles a dessert.
 
In my country if you go to bar you always get coffee from bar automat. But at home everybody make turkish style. I'm quit far from turkey, but guess, how to make coffee was left from the history days. I'm from Slovenia, I know that turkish style coffee at home drinks many people like: croatians,serbs,makedonians. But I do question my self about Austrians. They are my neighbours but I don't have a clue...

Its interesting how coffee traditions vary across Europe. My fiance's family is from romania and other friends of mine from albania all do it the same way. Turkish coffee at home but espresso has become popular when out to a bar. Makes sense for countries that were part of the ottoman empire to have a turkish coffee tradition. My albanian friends tell me that when they were growing up, only turkish coffee was prepared and espresso was rare. It took the fall of communism and the import of automatica machines from italy and now espresso is fashionable. Espresso is also prepared quicker than turkish coffee and a good automat machine can deliver cup after cup.

Id imagine that austria has coffee traditions similar to italy with espresso and cappuccino popular.
 
When we go to a bar I order coffee. I do enjoy it, but when I came home I make my self turkish coffee. If I would try to describe why I do that I would use this words: When I come home I feel like I had sex but without orgasm.

haha it is the same with espresso for me but in reverse. The bar espresso is better than homemade. Unless you are wealthy, nobody has one of those automatica machines at home. So home espresso is brewed with a moka pot. We have 4 different sizes at home, all made by Bialetti. The negative to the moka pot is the lack of foam. Its not a true espresso in my opinion and is a bit weaker than caffe espresso. There is no way a moka pot can reach the pressure an automat can. Now, the espresso made with automat machine is the best. Comes with foam and is very strong.
 
No option for Irish Cream? Bastards!

I make a 30-ounce mug of coffee every day, but only once per day. In it is 2 hots of Irish Cream. I buy in bulk and measured over a 5-10 year period when looking at my annual Amex reports. Been a constant 2-shot deal daily.

That's cause in Cyprus, and Greece, we call it Greek coffee. So we get around it that way.
 
It's not "coffee" anymore if you've bastardized it with a bunch of shit. That's not to say I can't enjoy one of said bastardized coffee flavoured beverages once in a while! But it sure as fuk aint "coffee".

Good coffee is best consumed black, and if that's intolerable, it probably isn't good coffee. A SMALL amount of milk or cream to take the edge off a particularly dark or bitter bean is acceptable, but otherwise nope.

My recommendation to those firmly opposed to going anywhere near a black coffee is to find one of the medium or light bean varieties that have an earthy flavour, they are usually not bitter at all and are more approachable to drink black. If that still doesn't work then maybe you just don't actually like coffee that much.
 
I'll drink that in winter. I buy a bottle of Carolans for jul, and when it's gone, that's it til next jul.
I had contacted the distillery regarding nutritional information and discovered, a) no dairy products in it (didn't really think there was), and b) two shots of the Irish cream had 1/3 the amount of sugar as a 12 ounce can of Coke. I gave up Coke.
