I'm not suprised.

15rep stuff is a killer!

I prefer low rep stuff. 6reps is plenty for me!

back in high school, my max was 565. Don't do full squats anymore though....screwed up my back playing rugby, so I just do leg press and hack squat.

yes, some say that the stress on the knees at 90 degrees is bad, but there are just as many who say that structural stress is aggravated by deep squats

read here, and then click on squat analysis and read about deep squats

http://www.exrx.net/WeightExer...ximus/BBFullSquat.html

basically, deep squats CAN be done safely if they are done right, but you need to be aware of what right is. as someone points out below me, your deep squat in your video dosent look too controlled (although some leeway must be given if ur only going for 2 squats at near max)

you can google for something like "squats 90 degrees" and find all kinds of conflicting info on the subject. really, the safest thing to say is to only go to like 95 degrees. but you wont see as much benefit there. the point being that i wouldnt want ppl doing an excercise as potentially risky as a squat based on someone's advice on the internet without someone qualified showing them how to do it properly

and btw, i didnt say that 90 was most stress on the knees, simply point of least leverage (from a muscular point of view). going all the way down, u can kind of push off your lower leg. the same reason why u dont touch the ground when doing pushups.

Heh... Too old and too out of shape now, but when I was younger and use to race bikes, I did pyramids and maxed out at 5 reps of 455 lbs... 6'1" and 185 at the time.... My legs were pretty big and pretty shredded at the time..

Rotten.com has a picture of what happens when you squat too much- its gross and NSFW- not that anyone is working at 10:00PM on Friday. No link because its so disturbing.

I never maxed out...but for my last set I do 315x6. 5'6" 153lbs.

yea, benching isn't a big deal, squating isn't a big deal too. its about overall body, everything from dips to squats, benching, curls, dead lifts, back curls, abs. people who are too concerned about whether or not they are stronger than another are kinda weird to me. I think as long as you built your body up to a good form where ladies wil find it attractive that's all that matters. no? I doubt any girl will choose one guy over another because he squatted or benched more.

Another question. I have a really bad knee, twisted twice as a kid and turned it like 170 degrees snowboarding. It hurts a lot and has gotten worse ever since I started running. I'm not beginning to do light weights for legs in hopes to strengthen the muscles around there. does anyone have recommendatios for me?

3 warmup sets of 100-150, then 4 working sets of 10 reps @ 225-235lbs (2 plates on each side). I do about double on leg press, but my last 4 sets of 10, are @ 540lbs (6 plates on each side, and I dunno how much the rack weighs) on the 45% angle press (the steeper one).

My squats are 90 degree knees... no ass to the grass... it scares me too much.

I weighed 170 today 18% body fat.

Koing,

The massive wobble thing you've got going on at the bottom of your squat is no good, man! It looks to me like your first upwards move is to psh your ass off the ground without your body going with it. You lean forward, then, your weight goes forward, and then the wobble corrects the imbalance. You've got to keep your weight back so you stay on your heels. Leaning forward is bad bad bad... and trust me, I know. I've been fighting that exact same thing ever since I started squating.

I also know you don't need/want that advice (sorry!) but your video isn't, I don't think, a model squat. I do appreciate you going deep, though, because it pisses me off to see squats done any other way. :) That said, I can get 8 reps with 225lb. ass-to-the-floor without too much trouble. I'm 6'1", ~185lb.

There is no 'some' say that the stress on the knees at 90 degree is bad.

It is a fact that when your knees are at 90 degress this is when your knee has the most pressure and is at it's weakest position. So why do you want to spend as much time there?

I don't need to read about squats. I have enough information about it.

When lifting for reps the weight will be lighter and different to a lift that is approaching 'maximums'.

I don't see no woble.. When your ass comes up a bit faster then your you are at a mechanical advantage in the squat. OF COURSE if you lean 'too' far forwards you will simply topple over. I was in complete control and I can almost gurantee that no one would squat the same weight to the same depth.

I could show some lighter weights if you want?

I Olympic Lift so I train that.

(yes that is 100kg over head in that deep position!)

05 I hope to qualify for the British Championships :D but finishing Uni is killing my training :(

My coach is 1x Worlds Master Champ and 6x British Champ so he has amazing experience. Has coached may National and Commonwealth Champions also. My form is fine in the squat.

bleh all im saying is there are professional opinions that deep squats can be just as if not more stressful to the joints if not done right and/or if people happen to have weak joints. and you might not find out until u kill it doing a deep squat

Three sets of 12 with 305

or

Three sets of 10 with 315

But I weight about 290, so that isn't a real good lift/body weight ratio

You probably consider jacking off a workout :p I don't think you'd know what to do with a set of weights if you stepped in the gym.

Before I've been going out of town on all these business trips, right around 300lbs x 4. 5'10, 180. (Now about 12-15lbs less)
