How much better is KOTOR PC vs. KOTOR console?

I just got a $5 credit from D2D so I checked the store and KOTOR is $5 right now.

I did buy KOTOR a long time ago for Xbox, but I never finished it (I still have it). I played it on a CRT and I think the low res sort of wore me down. I think I got pretty far though.

I remember the begining dragging on endlessly, but the game getting better after getting off of that first planet. I don't remember too much else.

If you've played KOTOR for xbox, is it still worth trying on PC (essentially for free)? Or should I not bother and save the $5 towards something else?

There is very little to no difference between KOTOR 1 on the XBOX and the PC. It's a great game on both, but if you currently have your XBOX hooked up then there's not much reason to re-purchase it on the PC. KOTOR 2 is a different case and should be purchased for the PC due to necessary user created updates it requires.

The gamplay is exactly the same. BUT, on the windows version you can take it all the way up to 1600x1200 with heavy antialiasing and AF. Also, there is a cheat code entered in the command console which makes you run faster and seriously speeds up the boring parts of the game. I dunno if you can do that on the Xbox version.
Also, there are other time saving devices like a flag in the INI file that lets you skip movies and such.

My xbox disc is damaged because of stupid gamestop and I could never get past this one spot.

The PC one keeps crashing randomly.

Bleh.

I only played it on PC and it played fine. It doesn't matter what you play it on, just that you play it. I still really love that game.

No it's pretty correct. The PC version is extremely buggy with little to no real developer support.

I must have been lucky on my play through then. There didn't seem to be many complaining about bugs back when this game was more mainstream. Bioware developed the game after all. I wouldn't call reduced texture and screen resolution resolution superior.

Its lazy thinking that the game is somehow better on the XBox.

I did not notice any bugs in the PC version, but I did play it after the final patch was released (and applied).

The PC version will offer you significantly better graphics and freedom to use your preferred input device.

Like others, I disagree here. I played KOTOR without any problems on my PM. KOTOR 2 is a different story entirely as I never could even get it to start on the PC, and so have never played it.

Bleh.

Fixed the crashing. Added the following line to the ini file in the game directory:

Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1

Also got it running at 1920x1080 yay. But now I am not in the mood for this kind of game.

Never had a single issue with KOTOR for PC, and loved playing at high res with AA and great textures while using my keyboard and mouse. It's also nice to have the option of tweaking gameplay and installing mods.

I'm with Adam, claiming it's better on console is lazy thinking.

I'm with everyone else here who says PC is better by far. I had it crash when I first played it, but I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, and it worked fine ever since. Pretty much every game site says PC is supiorer, due to the much higher textures, AA/AF, being able to mod/edit save games etc. I actually dug this out and got most of the way through a couple of months ago, but then got distracted by shiney new games.

AND.......
A buddy of mine who played the Xbox version first was watching me play in on my computer. He said his version didnt have as much talking. Many of the incidental character had no speech, just text.

Play either version, they are both fun.

If one version is "SOOO MUCH BETTER" then it probably means you either are (a) way too high strung or (b) epic-fail on one of your machines (PC or XBX).

It's better. Not "SOOOO MUCH BETTER", but unarguably better. It's a clear choice, and you don't have to be high-strung to think so. Not taking your flamebait.

PC version ran bug-free when I played and the 3rd party visual enhancement mod was a plus. I also hate playing fps games on a controller with a passion so my opinion is slightly skewed...

Back when it was first released (we were all on Xp 32bit) it had a few bugs but was on the whole a very playable game. Now, it's horrendous to even get it to install on Win7 64bit and it has not been patched since forever so there's little hope of that getting any better.

Fantastic game though, no point buying the PC version if you got an Xbox. The Xbox is far more likely to 'just work'.
