How many windows can you open ?

I have P3 600 with win98 and 384mb Ram.I can open 10-12 explorer windows and then i will see no memory alert. However,Rampage shows I still have like 200mb Ram left.but windows resource meter show no system resources and user resources. What do these resources mean? How can i open more windows?
Thanks for any help.

On my current P166 Pentium about 5-6 explorer windows, before the system grounds to a halt.

When my 1.2Ghz Athlon is working then I should be able to open many more.

I can open 12 windows without doing anything. When i am trading stocks, I want to open 8 windows, i can open only 5 or 6 and and i have to restart windows once or twice even with 5 or 6 windows. My trading software, mytrack is really using a lot of resources with time passing by.

I can open 6, then I get confused. At 12 I start to get a headache, at 15 I passed out. My wee pee brain can't handle all da info.

People tell me, have to use win 2000 because, better memory management. No use adding more memory otherwise. Problem is win2000 does not support 2 monitors with different resolutions and refresh rate. I am currently using one 17inch and one 21 inch monitor.
So Please tell me if you are using win 2000 or Winme or win98

Not sure why I bothered to test ths out....however.....

61 Windows open on my Duron/900 512mb RAM.

Well I haven't tested, but I have 14 open at the moment. K6II 266@300 with something a little over 200MB of memory, W2K. I know I've had a hell of a lot more, as I've had two lines of icons (without text) at the bottom running 1280x1024

Hey Remember GO FOR OPERA, I am running on a 448PII and cannot open more than 10 IE windows if I really wanna work with them...

Opera lets me open maybe 100... there is one feature in opera that opens up all your bookmarks... I hit this once... And after 1 min I had about 120 windows up... all my bookmarks... This didn't work for long... I started closing and around 90 or so I was stable again...

(tried it afterwards....)

LOL 194MB of ram...

So Your the man... A daytrader maybe???

Get a G450 and keep your monitors and have fun... It is awesome... try using Opera it works... has got some problems with java I think but most plugins work...

Opera is nice for Anandtech too... You can have maybe 10 windows up and let them refresh every min or whatever...

Go for Opera IE sux (not really... there are still some features that don't work with opera... some macromedia flash ex.)

Why would I want to open Windows? I only open enough and thats it! Most I have ever opened was something like 10 or something like that! Setup can be seen in my link to my rig in my sig! Hey that Rhymns! 🙂😛🙂

Why do they call them Windows? Its not light you go to them and push them open to let air in, like the conventional ones!😛

Here in the U.K it is too cold to open any Windows so I don't, cause I could be freezing my @r$e off! 😛

Just for Sh!ts and Gigles I just opened 47 IE windows before my system started to act funny. Never did give me a memory error. I have a P-4 with 512 megs a Rdram.

I got 65 with P3 800 and 512MB ram until I got a 'can't find drive error' and all the text within explorer went bold, lost the buttons at the top too.

😉

I didn't get anything like that but I had Asus probe running and it popped up some weird sh!t and started acting funny at 47. Who knows 😉

Win 98 is very limited in resource handles.

Win 2k handles this MUCH better and would take forever to run out of resources.

That is one thing in particular that people are talking about when they say Win 98 does not utilize large amounts of RAM well. (I know touchy subject)...

It's not that it does not use the ram (it does for example with large photoshop images) it's that Win 98 runs out of software Handles in some applications before you run out of physical RAM.
