How many TV channels are you getting from cable/satellite?

I've had Dish Network for over a year, and hated it nearly every second. I get the "America's Top 100" package (~125 non-HD channels), the local channels package, and the bronze + platinum HD package. This weekend I had a lot of time on my hands, so I got the wife to help me compile a list of the channels that we actually watch out of the "America's top 100" list. Out of about 125 channels, we came up with about 10.

It's amazing how many crap channels we get.

I wish i could have a tv company that just let me say "eh ill take this this this this this and this channel" but no, i have to get stupid packages... however having that many choices would be bad for my business model because of consumers being stupid.

I probably watch 8-10 and I get around 500 channels through DirecTV.

I hate that they make you order these large packages just to get a few decent channels.

Honestly, I miss my old $29/mo cable. I'm paying around $80/mo now and it's worthless except for the hi-def.

I wish they'd let you pay $3 per channel that you actually want. I'd be paying around $30/month and would be happy w/ that.

DirecTV HD plus package. Lots and lots of channels. Between my wife and I, we watch 10-15 channels. Unfortunately, the only way we can get HD is by getting the big package. 🙁 I would love a la carte channel ordering.

Yea, so you feel my pain also. I also hate the fact that I whenever my digital receiver 'resets' due to a storm or what not... I lose my 'favorite' channels that I've programmed. So then I go back to flipping through EVERY freakin channel again. It's always the same routine. I go from channel 2 up to 100... skip all those stupid PPV things and start on 200 and go up from there. It gets ridiculous. I've probably lost half of my free time by flipping through channels. I know I spend more time on that than I do actually watching TV.

i have the super-duper-basic comcast cable. it's about $8/month. i get about 40 channels and regularly "watch" ABC, FOX, WGN, and mostly the Discovery channel.
at least i get a $10 discount for having both internet and cable from them 😉

Whoa. I know Dish Network receivers remember fav settings no matter what.

Around 125/10
I am going to build a HTPC and get all material online through Hulu, Netflix and Vuze.

Around 20, 7 of which are in spanish, two are home shopping, and most of the rest I can get through an antenna. The news is on while I get ready for work, but that's all the TV I watch regularly. The main reason I get cable TV is because it lowers the price of my internet.

Does it lower the price of your internet more than it increases the overall bill? 😛

Yup.

internet alone: $60
internet w/ a TV package: $45
basic TV package: $13

...yeah, I'm not sure how that one works out.

I only watch about 20 of the channels and we get about 300(in reality about 120, being that half of them are repeated 🙁 )

I have Comcast Basic, which gives me 11 channels not including all the crappy community access channels. I actually watch four of them (the local affiliates for CBS, ABC, FOX, and NBC). Occasionally I flip on CNN as well.

I look at cable TV much like I do having to buy a whole album to get just one song that I like, I don't like it and don't do it. And I imagine that eventually cable TV will have to go the route of music buying on the Internet, just rent what channel you need and nothing else. Whomever comes up with that plan will make a mint.

i have suddenlinks entry level digital cable, so probably about 100 channels

theres maybe a dozen that i watch, but i usually dont watch tv too often, except that ive become addicted to house, and i try to watch EPL soccer on saturdays.

otherwise, netflix, ftw.

I get some digital package from Comcast (that combines with phone and internet for $100/month). I have about 100 channels, of which I'll watch ~12-15.

I watch broadcast + ESPN and Comedy Central. Occasionally TNT and TBS. I realized recently I was giving my crappy cable company way too much money, so I dropped my cable down to basic. I already have Tivo, so basic + broadcast is pretty much everything I need. I'm losing ESPNHD, but MNF is over for the year...I'm not too concerned.

I have comcast digital cable w/ the expanded line-up and HD option. I only watch the HD channels. Network channels = 4, cable channels = 7-8. There a are number of cable channels that are not available yet on HD. I get the "available shortly" prompt. So weak.
