How many TV channels are you getting from cable/satellite?

FTA satellite. So just over 2000 channels. But really only watch like 10 of those channels regularly.

I've heard there isn't much watching via Free-to-Air. What "worthwhile" stations do you get? I currently use OTA (with the new Echostar DVR) and can't receive CBS and NBC, and was considering trying FTA if they be received that way.
I get all of Dishnet with my FTA receiver... not sure how much longer it will last though. there are rumours of a "big hit" soon.
but currently i get all of the local channels from every market, all of the PPVs, sports packages, etc etc. all of it.

I don't have any sort of paid television service. I use OTA HD and get PBS, FOX and CBS in hi-def. Once they turn off analog signals, I'll get ABC in hi-def as well. Fortunately, the major networks account for around 80% of my TV watching... the rest of it being Showtime and USA.

I also use a HTPC with my HDTV and it works rather well as it's more of a media/file server with around 6TB of space (and I have another 1.5TB HDD sitting on my desk to go in :Q!) I do "acquire" some of my shows, but to ease the conscience, I also purchase all of these TV shows on DVD (preferably Blu-Ray though) when they come out. I really, really prefer the ease of something being on my hard drive rather than having to navigate to a website or put in a DVD... it allows for more spontaneous actions.

I watch no TV; I barely know how to turn the damn thing on. We have some whacky ghetto receiver hookup, and all the settings on the TV and receiver have to be changed depending on if you want to watch TV, play video games, or watch a movie.

We still pay around $50/month for the TV service, though, because it makes our internet bill cheaper. Lol.

The more I think about this the more I realize something very sad....

There are only 2 channels I really want that I cannot get in HD for free OTA. ESPN and ESPN2. Yeah, now that I think about it I believe I will call Comcast this weekend and see if I can get a better deal or just cancel down to super basic.

LOL.....I get so many channels with FIOS....but I really only watch FOX. Once in a while i will watch stuff on FX or TBS, but that is only about once a week when I am completely bored (which happens alot in the burbs). I suppose could cancel it FIOS TV, but that would require me to give up 20 down service and I will pay only about $10 less a month.
