How many really really good friends do you have?

And by really really good I mean friends that have seen you at your best and at your worst and still want to hang out with you. Friends that allow you to be yourself around them totally, and not have to pretend to be someone you aren't just to please them.

How many friends can you say fall into this category?

edit: also i just wanted to say that i do consider some forum buddies to be real life friends even though i haven't met them - recently i was a f*cking asshole and deleted them all from facebook and stuff. i'm sorry

There are definitely two types of friends in my opinion. One group consists of social acquaintances who you might meet up with regularly and have some drinks or get dinner. You share similar interests and most of the times they wont go too far out of their way to help you with anything or 'be there' if you need them. That group is about 99%

The other 1% are the people who would gladly give up their comfort or safety to help you and vice versa. They become family. These people are truly hard to come by no matter who you are.

That said, I have 2 friends like that.
