Yes, you are generalizing about race, which is the exact definition of racism.

I'm not the one doing it. You are barking up the wrong tree. The teacher asked for a black persons perspective. They have determined there is a different culture within their school and they wanted a black perspective. If all the black kids had the same culture as the white kids, I doubt the question needed to be asked.

Think about it before you respond.

Racism still exists. It's just different today.

It's just that it's more internal. Most white people still get upset when they see a group of black teenagers out in their neighborhood. Put a group of white or even Asian teenagers and their reaction is going to be much different. Also, how many people internally are screaming negative statements towards blacks in their homes or cars. What about going into a restaurant and all you see are a sea of black teens. Most people are going to feel uncomfortable and leave.

Of course white people can mention race. It all depends on what is being said. Ghettos don't need to be acknowledged as ghettos, they can be referred to as poor neighborhoods...

And why can't they be? Its not racist to use the term ghetto despite who the inhabitants of the ghetto are.

A black perspective is needed when a black person would naturally have a different perspective about a specific topic. For example, a white kid wouldn't know shit about someone he never met assuming his parents don't give a shit about his education, while it is very likely that a black kid would deal with that attitude often. Having a white teacher offering advice about that type of thing would be like having a male offering advice to a teenage girl about her period.

Ghetto is a racially charged term. Everyone knows this. Hell, it is even offensive to many Jewish people.

Whether or not it is isn't the point. The point is that every full blown racist will make it a point to call black people savages every fucking chance he/she gets. That's how posters here get reps as being racists. It's not because they called a black person a savage, it's because they make sure to call them a savage every chance they get. They aren't fooling anyone.

Careful....brandonb gets really mad when you point out his racism. He believes its his right to feel superior to other people based solely on the color of the top few layers of his skin. And he gets damn mad when you challenge that.

I hate racist pieces of trash like him. I really do.

What we are really debating here is not being sensitive, not racism. The statements in the OP are not racist. They just aren't. They aren't very sensitive and if I get the context correct, shouldn't be used by teachers because they are worded poorly. But saying any of those things wouldn't be racist. Stupid, ignorant, uninformed, a jerk....yep. But not racist.

Doesn't matter, if you want to avoid racially charged words, you avoid using ghetto. It's that simple. If you don't care, then don't care, but you run the risk of someone misinterpreting what you might have meant to say.

Someone assuming he isn't interested in education because they assume his parents aren't interested in it? I thought I was pretty clear.

No man no!

I use the word ghetto regularly. I'll do it now: I grew up in the ghetto. I did. Burton Heights in Grand Rapids, MI. Village Manor in Sturgis, MI. Those places are ghetto. They are. Its a fact.

See how using that word isn't offensive?

I'm not saying it is impossible to use the word ghetto in a non-offensive way. I'm just saying it is possible for someone who grew up in your neighborhood to be offended that you refer to it as a ghetto.

Then I will explain myself the same way I explained my usage of savage earlier in this thread. All of this walking on eggshells behavior is overly and annoyingly politically correct and does nobody any good. IMO it's this type of pandering behavior that leads people to beleive that all of the statements in the OP are "racist" and dilutes the real meaning of true racism.

So because some use a term for a cover for racism NOBODY can use the term? no matter if it is the correct term?

Those rioting were fucking savages. they burned down buildings, they attacked poeple. this is a fact.

I don't give a flying fuck what color they are. you act like that I will call you a savage...and retarded. really burning down stores in your neighborhood?

As for ATOT part of the reason "savage" got so much damn use was because of people like you. When people were banned for the use of the word (even when legit) it drove people to post it as often as they can. Sure there was racist shits that used it. but it got blown out of proportion that it started to be a joke

It doesn't dilute anything, it teaches us to use better communication. There are better ways to say most of the things on that list that aren't as ambiguous. What you call walking on eggshells I call saying what you really mean. There is enough hate in the world without compounding it with easily avoidable misunderstandings.

Anybody can use the term. Everybody that uses it does so at their own risk. Everybody knows it can be interpreted in a negative manner. You can choose to ignore that fact. It's a free country. You are free to say whatever and society is free to criticize you for it.
