Ahh. No. That's not a filling. Yes, technically it is but it's not. I have two of these. The dentist wanted to inject anesthetics, but I didn't want it, so he tried to do it without. Let me say this- it didn't hurt a bit! It was a pretty big cavity, probably there for like 10 months. I'm very impressed with my dentist. Basically, he first used this vacuum to get rid of food in the cavity, then he used filling and put it in there with a pick. They did it a lot of times, a team of 2. After the filling, they would use UV light to harden the filling. They would repeat the filling and hardening like 5 times. In 1 hour, they did 2 teeth! Very happy with it, it's possible.
Small price to pay, imo.I end up looking like I had a stroke for 6 hours after![]()
There's no way you can do it without anesthetic if they're getting near a nerve. Tooth nerves are some of the most sensitive in the body and friction from a dentist drill can heat the drilled area up to 300F.
What sucks is when they overdo they numbing. My dentist injects a tiny needle all over, then when that takes effect he brings out a giant horse tranquilizer needle. I end up looking like I had a stroke for 6 hours after![]()
I am just wondering because I had a second experience when dental professionals were just floored that I have never received anesthetic of any sort for my eight fillings (all when I was under 12). I am about to have my wisdom teeth yanked, and I had to tell the dentist that I had never had anesthesia of any sort (never had any surgeries before). The guy who was filling out some preliminary paperwork just couldn't believe that my teeth had been drilled without gas or anything like that.
Anyone else out there have an apparently hardcore dentist growing up?
My dentist always says "there'll be a little pinch." Yeah, that hurts for a second but I don't murmur or start. The interesting thing about those needles is you don't even feel them going in.
