How many people have had their car broken into?

I have had two cars broken into....one in an attepmt to steal the car and one to steal the stereo. My sister has had two break-ins in her driveway.

Also, where do you live? Good/bad neighborhood?
I was in Federal Way, WA when mine happened. Not the best, but not the worst suburb of Seattle.

yes.

driver side window smashed, contents rummaged through, garage opened w/ door opener, booze & food stolen from beer fridge.

perpetrator was apprehended by police after leaving our house and running to a stolen vehicle (third one he had stolen that night). the vehicle was rammed by a police cruiser and rolled in a front yard down the street.

my car was among ~30 cars that had their windows smashed. about 15 garages were broken into in total.

guy was 2 months out of Kingston jail and i guess he wanted to go back so decided to play GTA on our street.

Broken into once in our driveway in a fairly quiet neighborhood. Although it was an 88 Caprice Classic (I think), a ghetto favorite, I'm sure the two black guys that came over "asking about the car" had something to do with it...

yes
i was dumb and parked in a bad place
atlanta 1999
my car passenger windows was broken out

they took the change from my pooka
my cell phone car charger
2 laptops from the trunk (they were not in site, i guess they just wanted the change and/or saw the cell phone charger and were hoping to get a cell phone and decided to check the trunk and got lucky). one laptop was my personal machine, but i had mostly quit using it and the other was an old company laptop.

the police recovered the company laptop a couple months later from a juvenile, i don't know what punishment he got

the worse part was having to clean up the broken glass and pay for a new window

Nope. I've been lucky so far, even when I parked my car in some "less than safe" neighborhoods. I just try to make the car as "unattractive" to a break-in as possible (stash my CDs under the seat, take the change out of the cupholder, etc.). I've got a stock stereo so I doubt they're going to break in for that.

I live in a pretty safe area now so I don't worry so much about it anymore, though.

Yes, multiple times, even.
More than once in GTA3.
Over 10 times in GTA: Vice City
And I think it might have been 30 times already in San Andreas..

Yep, 4 times... and if I ever catch someone in the act I'll punch them in the throat.

[edit]

Parking lot of movie theater - 1
Parking lot at apartment complex in nice neighborhood - 2
Driveway of own house in nice neighborhood - 1

College Park, MD: 1 time, Leonardtown lot (for those of you familiar), but basically on campus grounds. Seems like it was probably an attempt to yank the stereo.. only thing of value minus the car (passenger side window smashed). Luckily there was someone who spotted the dude and sorta just hung around and called the police.

Home: gaithersburg, in my driveway... i'm not sure how they opened the door, unless my remote lock gave me a false positive the night before, which never had happened. Tried to rip the stero out, failed, took change in car. No damage. This was the SAME stereo as before, just in a different car now.

Home again, not driveway, but the overflow street parking.. which is still in the neighborhood. brother's steroe was jacked. yup, it was the same damn stereo from the previous attempts. No other damage. Apparently, even if my brother did lock the door (he's pretty sure he did), buddy of mine says is pretty damn easy to open up the accords. no alarm, even easier.

i'll add my neighborhood isn't exactly up to par either.

Really? In our town or elsewhere? Potentially scary. In Alaska, I had my gym bag lifted from pickup truck. It was in the bed, but I did have a canopy/shell. I left the windows open on the canopy, though. Doh! The bad guys got some smelly really old gym clothes (whatever you imagined, make them smellier and older) but they also got my $29 elastic iPod Shuffle armband. Frickin' thieves.

I replaced the bag and it's contents at Wal-Mart for about $25 (except the iPod armband, frickin' thieves).

I once caught a guy staring through the window and screwing around with the driver door handle. We stared at each other, he left. I no longer eat at that Chippottle.

You left out the part where you beat the snot out of him for being a bottomfeeding societal leech.

sort of....
our car was in our garage. we forgot to put the garage door down one night.
kids in our neighborhood (we think) went into it and took our ipod and the owners mannual packet as well. 🙁
it was our fault that we didnt close the door, but still was upsetting. 🙁
edit: we live in a good neighborhood in a nice city

just once.

lived in a bad area (well bad for Dekalb. not really bad) and some kids broke into my car. considering i was 18 at the time i had nothing of value in the car. think they stole the change i had in the change cup

well, not really broken into, but my tires almost got jacked. If it wasn't for the safety bolt I don't know where I'd be right now.

Bork, you're a federal agent! You represent the United States Government! Never end a sentence with a preposition.
