I really want to get at least an SSD but that's it as I want a new TV. My system is good for at least another year.

Looking at a monitor upgrade with high res 2540 x 1600 or something like that.

I probably would need a graphic card upgrade and SSD to go along with that.

oh well.

My Athlon 64 2X 3800+ is 4 years old now. I plan to wait at least another 2 before making any changes.

I only replace parts when something dies or is clearly not operating properly. I'd still be using my Athlon Thunderbird if I could.

I upgraded my laptop to a macbook pro a few months ago, but I am actually thinking of downgrading the gaming PC and trading the 5970 I have for a lower end card. Not sure if I will yet though.

pretty sure it'll be a few more years before software requirements can catch up to my early 2009 hardware (i7 920, 6gb, gtx285). i can still easily run any of the new games

will be constantly adding more 2TB hds for my burgeoning bluray collection

Basically same here.

i7 920, 6 gb ram, 5850 is my current rig. There are 2 for sure upgrades, and a 3rd possibility. First is an SSD to replace my 74 gb Raptor (which I might just throw in 1 TB Caviar blacks in Raid 0 until I get an SSD). I will also grab another 6 gb+ of ram. The possible upgrade is a new case, while I love my current one it's kind of small.

I also will buy more 2 TB's for storage.

Built an X3350 based quad core rig two and a half years ago. Since then I upgraded the 3870x2 to a 5870 and added an SSD. I probably won't upgrade until Ivy Bridge comes out.

As several people have mentioned, Console gaming has ground PC component progression to a halt. I wonder if Intel and AMD are happy about this.

I won't be upgrading it this season, but maybe next year a new video card and/or SSD drive.

Edit: E8400 with a gforce9800, runs everything I play just fine so I don't see a need.

I'm hoping to get a bluray burner for christmas. Other than that I can't really think of anything I need. Maybe a quieter video card to replace my howling dual 4670s.

I'm still living with my "ancient" P4 rig with AGP video...I MIGHT buy a "pre-built computer from Amazon if we decide to cash our Starpoints in for Amazon gift cards.

by any chance do you know when starpoints were eligible for gift cards? was it always like this?

Last upgrade was my 5770 I snagged for $100. Upgrading during the holiday will be dependent on finding steady work.

I upgrade my desktop every 6-12 months if I can find replacements parts for a very low price or used while I can still sell my existing parts and spend very little out of pocket.

I'll ride mine out longer. I'd probably have to upgrade the CPU, mobo and switch from DDR2 to DDR3 so it wouldn't be a cheap change. I have a hard time dealing with the cost of DDR3 too - I last bought DDR2 when it was $20 for 4GB (AMIR) :\

Besides - I need storage for my WHS more than anything

I'm not sure when they started the program. I've always been able to trade for airline miles though. They have several "partners" that allow me to trade my starpoints for gift cards and the like.

Who the hell other than gamers still upgrades every 12 months?

Computers are powerful enough to run almost all consumer applications these days for many years.

I haven't upgraded my Q6600 rig in almost 3 years, and I don't foresee the need for another 2 or 3 years.

I upgrade in bits and bits pieces here and there. Honestly, for what I actually use my PC for, I probably don't need to upgrade as often as I do, but I just can't help myself. :\
