I know it's sort of an obvious issue. But some people refuse to use one just because it's "below them". I'd rather be safe than sorry 😛

So, do you use protection? If not, then why? 😉
 
i use it for manual scan. funny how i've never encountered a virus even though i download all kinds of stuff

I do, because my wife sometimes tries to open email attachments that shouldn't be opened. Tonight, she told me that she needed to look at a .pif file. Of course, it was the 'sobig' virus.

I've only had one - did a windows 2k server install and enabled IIS before patching and picked up CodeRed in a matter of minutes.
 
I've got Norton AV on all computers I use, and it regularly picks out viruses from my email. I get at least 1 per week. While I use a relatively unknown and hence safe email client, it's still good to know I have the added protection.
 
i do. only gotten 1 virus ever. though whenever i'm supposed to fix a friend's computer and back up their hard drive i have to scan their virus filled dumpster before anything else.

I went without an antivirus for 2 years and everything was fine. Then somehow I picked up the WIN.CIH virus and it infected every damn executable on my hard drive. Cleaning it was a mother because it would infect the antivirus program I was using to clean it and then spread to even more files. I had to download a specific program to isolate the virus before cleaning the pc. Formatting wasn't an option because I had some really important programs on there and besides, viruses can infect the bios sometimes too and even a format won't do the trick. Finally got the damn thing cleaned off, been running Norton's Antivirus since and it has saved me many times.
