We had this thread before. Several people admitted to doing it. The holier-than-thou crew came out in suprisingly small numbers - mosly the straight-edgers here.

Ditto and I am not very proud of it. In fact, when I came out of the "fog" and realized my mother was killed by a drunk driver I never did it again.

I've probably been over .08 before. Was I swerving all over the place and missing stop signs/red lights? Hell no. But my reaction time was slowed of course.

oops someone posted their SSN... that person is gonna be pwned by ident. fraud!

;)

Yeah I have, coming back from parties. Didn't swerve or anything, just was a lot harder to focus. I was fine. I waited many hours until I was sober enough to drive.

When I was a sophomore in college, I had my one lesson learned and haven't operated a car after having more than 2 beers since.

That was back in 1993. My GF and I had just left a bowling alley and I had probably consumed around 7 beers. I didn't feel trashed by any means but I knew I shouldn't have been driving. Was about 4 miles back to my apartment. Made it back to the service road without any issues. That's when I noticed a state trooper pull out behind me and hit the blue lights. I knew at that moment I was about to go to jail with my first ever DUI. He pulls me over and I'm about to burst into tears at this point. He asks me if I knew how fast I was going and I said I wasn't sure but that I was less than a mile from my apartment. He told me I was going around 45 in a 35 and that I should be more aware of the speed limit considering I lived off that road. He then told me he was just giving me a warning and for us to be more careful.

Wasn't really out of the woods at that point because he followed me back to my apartment complex, where he was aparently friends with the security guy in the little entrance building out front of the complex. But, I made it back to my place without a speeding ticket and without a DUI. Personally, I don't think there's ANY way in hell he couldn't tell I had been drinking. It had to be obvious but I'm convinced that he was just in a damn good mood, knew I was young and about to have my life screwed up with a DUI and he chose to let us to go home since we were so close.

I vowed that night to NEVER have more than 2 beers and get behind the wheel and I've stuck to that self-promise ever since then. Simply not worth it to put your life or someone else's life in danger. And I tend to not even drink two beers before driving unless I'm having dinner or lingering at a home/bar long enough for it to have no impact on my driving.

Thanks jackass, two beers is nothing I still don't feel safe with people like you on the road. Had you not been caught, or almost caught, you'd have probably fvcked up bad by now.

You mean the people that actually listened to the 1000s upon 1000s of warnings that are given nowadays about doing such a neglectful and potentially seriously dangerous act?

Well i'm not gonna lie, i have done in the past and i am definitely NOT proud of it. Never when properly drunk, but under the influence of a few beers, yes (I know this doesn't make it any better).

agreeed.

I used to freshman year of college. There was one time frosh year where I blacked out and drove back (Dont ask me how i did it).

I will never do it again. I did the smart thing and got a condo close to all the bars and school. Now I can walk to the bars, school, football games, and our fraternity house. Saves me a lot of money, and now I can get severely wasted and just stumble back home.

I did once... I don't recall the trip home in its entirety, but the car didn't have a scratch on it. Since then, never drank like that again. More like one beer/drink... that's it. The what-ifs and such still haunt me.

i drove home once from a buddys house in mountain view going home to san jose
had at least 5 mixed drinks and a few beers in about 4 hours time

got on el camino real and proceeded to get on the freeway
saw a car following me so i went from the middle lane to the slow lane, blinker on and all
then the car followed me and it was a cop
he turned his lights on and i pulled over off of the freeway exit

he asked me how i was and i said fine
he then asked me have you been drinking i said no
then stated well you smell like alcohol are you sure you havent been drinking
i say i had a beer 2 hours ago
after that he asks me to step out of the car
at this point i crap im my pants thinking im going to jail
he had me do the hold your hands out at shoulder level all the way out and then touch your nose, no problem
then he said follow my pen with your eyes, no issue
he then proceeds to say you are ok and also says do you know why i originally pulled you over, my answer no
he basically said my car stereo was turned up too loud but he didnt even give me a ticket for that

i was drunk but got away with it
now if i do drink i have my wife or someone else drive
its not worth driving drunk thats for sure

I have, and it's the scariest thing I've ever done. I don't do it anymore. Heck, I hardly even drive anymore.

You and me both brother...

Remember the old standybys, "You drive, you are the least wasted." and "I'm okay to drive, It's ony a short drive."?

Nowadays, I'll take a parking ticket for parking overnight, pay for an expensive cab ride and deal with the hungover retrieval process to avoid driving under the influence. I don't want to die and I don't want to live with the guilt of killing someone.

I've driven after getting 1 hour of sleep after pulling a near all-nighter for a term paper. That was bad.
I didn't assess risk while driving. I didn't look at a curve up ahead, think about how fast I could safely go through, and slow down to that speed. I drove to school by memory. Like, "I usually go 40mph down this street, so I'll do that." The worst part? I had my little sister in the passenger seat. We were sitting at a light, it turned green, and I didn't start moving for 3 seconds or so. She says she told me to go. I don't remember that part.
The second worst part? I took a double-period chemistry test first thing after getting to school.

>_<

Once, last weekend as a matter of fact. Party at my friends, lives 3 miles down the road...4am...only did it to avoid a chick that i knew id end up sleeping with then regretting it the next day. I was sober enough to drive thank god.
