As in, you get so fed up with trying to fix/troubleshoot sometimes, you'd rather just hire someone or go buy a new part/system entirely, or just say you don't know how to fix it so a person will stop bugging you?
Good grief, I bought an AMD CPU with a supposedly stable Gigabyte motherboard the other day, and after cursing at the SOB for a good half an hour after it kept blue screening when I tried to install XP, I said forget this crap, and I sent the whole pile back for an Intel setup(that's besides the point. :) ) I've now learned that it was a BIOS setting, but I don't regret returning it for a second. If it doesn't work when I turn it on, I'm not gonna sit there for 6 hours trying to get it to work.

Anyways, I guess I'd make a super-shite tech support guy, maybe I'm just starting to hate computers in my old age?

I get there sometimes, yeah. But since I'm getting paid and I'm the guy that people come to when they can't figure theirs out, I guess I can't do that :p

I usually run to friends online or Viper GTS if he's around. But I'm slowly learning to hold my own.

How long have you been doing it for, Nik?
I'm wondering if perhaps age has something to do with it. As we get older, the more impatient we get or something? :)

Yes! Preach it, Brother Rooster!

;)

Yeah, I'm a software engineer by day, computer hobbyist/addict by night. So yes, they *are* my life (man, I'm wincing on the inside as I type that statement), but I do get sick of them. Just for once, I'd like them to just work, and stay working, for maybe just two consecutive hours. ;) Ok, i'm exaggerating, but they can be a reeeeeal pain sometimes.

I was just a CIS major (computer information systems) and going into my second year I've decided I want to become a airline pilot..... computers just don't do it for me anymore and jobs are so scarce.

That's one of the big reasons that I'm trying my damnest to get out of break/fix. It has pretty much killed any love/desire that I've had to tinker with my machines at home.

I have to babysit this crap all day, 40 hours a week and have to put up with stupid errors and hardware flaking out. The LAST THING I want to do when I get home is sit around and try and figure out why my wireless network is on the fritz and not allowing clients to web browse.

I love to play with all my own stuff, and rarely get tired of it, but I hate working on other peoples machines because they just hover over you asking questions that have nothing to do with the problem. I even had a guy lean over and ask "what's that?" then touch the northbridge and zapped the damn thing with static electricity. That just pisses me off!

I was thinking more along the lines of a PS2/XBox and a typewriter.

I don't get paid to fix them or anything. I'm not good enough at working with them that people I know come to me first for help with hardware. If it's a program that I'm using that they know I use frequently, then I'm usually one of the first people they ask for help. I guess I'm more of a software type person than I am hardware. I still get kind of nervous whenever I open up my case to do something on the inside. I'm just afraid I'll screw something up, I guess.

I guess my point was that macs are an integrated machine. Apple does all of the hardware trouble shooting. We don't have to deal with the zillions of choices that PC users have. A lot less problems arise when there are fewer things that could be the problem.

Excellent Point!

But what if you want a better video card?
But what if you want a better sound card?
But what if you want to play REAL games?
But what if you want...

heh I'll stop before war breaks out...

Im sick of it. I used to be hardcore in overclocking, tweaking, modding the case, etc etc. But after a while it just got boring. Been there done that wasted hundreds of dollars on stuff like peltiers extra case fans paints etc. Just not worth it any more. I havent upgraded or changed my system in so long, I see no reason to. I used to enjoy building computers, but now I cant stand it. I got to admit it was fun while it lasted though. I'm starting to get in to something new -- programming, which so far has been fun. I just hope it lasts ;)

You said it brother...

I had 4 PCs (2 at my house, bothers, and in-laws) down at once and just about said screw it all. I've since recovered but have spent a lot of time away from computers when I got the chance :D

A few years back fiddling with hardware used to be my thing to do. I now basically can't stand it. I find it so interminably boring. I want everything to work first time with as little difficuly as possible and I want my computer only to serve my needs and nothing else. This is why I upgrade very infrequently these days.

hmmm and there are plenty of airline pilot slots open? In a few years maybe. I am the opposite. I was an airline pilot and gave it up for a career in computers. Nope I don't love computers that much, but I was tired of being away from the children. Maybe as they get older and more independant, I may join you as a pilot again.

The thing is I have grown to hate tinkering with computers. Now that I mess with them all day at work, I come home and I want it to work dammit. I have always built my own, but my next PC is going to be prebuilt or from parts I know won't need to be fiddled with.

I guess thats why I will always suck at my job. I always run into other IT people and they have Unix servers running at home with swithes and routers and all other crap to tinker with. When I sit at the computer at home, its jsut for playing games or working with home videos.

My last home built was buggy and the processor burned out and I was so frustrated I went down to Best Buy, bought one of their vpr Matrix PC's and got the 3 year coverage so I wont have to deal with it anymore.
