yes, i drove before 16 by practicing anywhere so that i could skip 6 hours driving class. 😀

now i'm 23 and i feel so old. 🙁

I didn't, but both of my kids have frequently since we moved out to the country. They don't drive to town or anything like that - it's more of a convenience thing for me: I'm about to paint the garage doors; "Hey, wanna drive the cars and park them in front of the barn? Be careful!" Plus, I'm always yelling at them about riding their dirt bikes on the road - I don't want to deal with a visit from the authorities about them riding illegally.

Wrecked my parents 1985 VW Golf when I was 16 or 17, didn't have a license yet. I was adjusting the tape deck, trying to get to this one awesome Cannibal Corspe song, and a sharp turn came up unexpectedly. I didn't know what the hell to do, so I ended up hitting a tree on the passenger side door. Years later I would attend a Cannibal Corpse concert, and it was awesome.

I learned to drive in my brothers 1986-88 TransAM when I was 15.

It was a daily 5 mile drive and I always had to stop @ this traffic light right in front of the Police Station. Cops came in and out all the time. My brother would just tell me to avoid looking at them and to act "cool"

I practiced in a parking lot at 15 before my permit. Looking back it was pretty stupid - cops could've easily checked us.

And although not illegal, the day we passed our written test (can drive to school and driver's ed), we had driver's ed class... our teacher asked us if our parents gave us a vehicle that day to use - we said yes... he shook his head in disgust. Looking back (once again), I agree with him. Experience is very important... plus driving with kids our own age is recipe for disaster... ask any teen.
Yeah, having your buddies along in the car is a recipe for some crazy driving, especially if you are the show-off type.
Back in HS we'd have to drive to a park for our PE class because the school didn't have its own game fields. I'd hitch a ride with a friend and some other guys and I remember flying down the road, pushing 90mph, while the rest of the traffic was doing 55. This was in some '80s Cutlass or Oldsmobile of some sort. We were going so fast we zoomed by the school and had to find a side road to turn around on. Ended up getting stuck in a muddy vacant lot about a block from school and the neighbors wouldn't help pull the car out of the mud because they said we'd been driving recklessly down the street. I think we walked back. My mom was waiting to pick me up and wondered where the hell I was.

Not me. I grew up in Germany, where the driving age is 18 and penalties are pretty stiff. On the plus side, you can start drinking alcohol whenever you want... 😀

Not me, not unless you count stepping on the gas or handling the steering wheel for 3 seconds at the ripe age of 7 as 'driving'. Hell, I can't even drive yet since there's never really been a need. And it's not like I can afford a car/share the family's. Oh well, live downtown so not a problem...

Pretty much everyone in my class drove illegally except for maybe one or two. I was one of them. I don't know why, but driving just didn't excite me like it apparently does most people. I scared my driver's ed instructor because I hadn't driven before that, and he kinda was over-active with the brake (he would hit it all the time which made it seem like I wasn't driving smoothly when I would have been).

I had a friend who had a permit to drive his dad around when we were in jr. high because his dad had been in an accident that messed up his spine. He's pretty much a terrible driver even though he's probably driven more than the majority of drivers our age. He's gotten better, but still isn't what I'd call someone I like riding with.

I know there were several people in our class who got caught driving illegally (the police actually setup a sting to catch a few of them, mostly because they drove like complete idiots otherwise they wouldn't have cared). Several also got DUIs before the end of high school.

There have been quite a few driving-related deaths. Let's just say, too many of the kids have had to learn physics the hard way (driving 70mph+ on loose gravel/dirt roads with lots of corners in pickups and typical inexpensive high school kids cars is not a good idea as quite a few people learned). The thing that kinda annoys me is when everyone acts all sentimental and sad and says how innocent the people were. Instead of trying to do something about it they just ignore the problem.

I drove alone when I had my learners permit with no insurance.

Of course I was pulled over for something stupid and it was an expensive lesson.

I drove to Taco Bell (~5 miles) once about a month before I got my license.

I'm going to hell, I know.

yes i did,i drove myself back and forth to school everyday a month before my 16th b-day, my school was 9 miles away, no bus and my mom was very ill, she gave me her car.
