How Many Of You Drove Illegally?

I turn 16 in 21 days (July 23). I already have a car (04 Monte Carlo SS). It's absolutely KILLING me. I'm stuck at my parents real estate office, noway to get home. Should I snag the car and leave?

Has anybody else been in this situation? What did you do?

yes, i did some stupid stuff before i got my drivers license
back then i would have gotten into some trouble if i had been caught, but not like today's laws where you lose your license until you turn 21

i don't recommend it

It's not worth it. If you get busted it will only extend how long until you can drive because your parents might take away the car for a while or the city will not let you get a license right away.

Sack up and wait the 21 days.

Yeah, thats probably the best bet. My uncle is Sheriff, and I didn't take that into consideration. He would pull it until I was 30, he's an @ss.

he's an ass for doing his job and upholding he law? 😕

i don't think you're going to find anyone here who has drove illegally, aka before they've had their license.

That's probably the worst idea I've ever heard. You're that close and willing to screw it all up for what?

Moshquerade: I was saying that he would pull the liscense for 9 more years, because he's like that. I know he's doing his job, therefore, I wouldn't be let off the hook.

Dude, you're close to being legal and you have a nice car that was presumably given to you. Just tough it out and wait a bit longer.

I drove a lot before 16 but that was because I was on the farm with my grandfather and in Idaho. The cops all knew me and my grandfather. They knew what I was doing and that I was capable so let me do it.

I was 12-13 the first time I drove and it was on farm roads at my grandparents. I drove a lot illegally before I finally got my learners permit at age 15 and 8 months.

Edit: This is in no way a recomendation that you do the same. Things are much different these days in the impact that getting caught doing stuff like this can have on you and your family than it was when I was a kid.

so he would be harder on you than someone else?

good. 😉

I did and there were many of times I sweated it out while the cops drove by going back and forth to Florida. It was scary and stupid, should have just taken the train.

When I was 18 I knew a guy that was 15 at the time. He was an ahole and was threatening people so we left where he was. He got in his car and followed and I called the police and had him thrown in jail.

Yes I did.

No, I wouldn't recommend it.

ditto here, i had 8 pts against my license before i turned 16. by the time i was 18 i had 39 pts and had lost my license 9 times, and had 9 stays in jail for driving on said suspended license. it was a very nice judge and a bit of a miracle that i didnt lose my license permanently, and it really changed the way i looked at the whole situation. i havent had a ticket in years. id say let it ride, wait for the prize.

I've been driving since I was 13 y/o. Of course, I didn't drive on the road. I started racing when I was 13, not legally driving.

Don't risk it.

I did some short on-property driving before I was 16. That's when I backed a truck into a tree, and now I refuse to drive large vehicles and stick to smaller ... close to the ground... cars. 😛

Definitely not worth it considering that you'll probably never see your license for another 3 years if you get caught. The cops would be all over a kid your age driving a car like that to begin with.

I didn't have my own car until shortly before my 19th birthday. Suck it up and wait three weeks. You'll be glad you did.

I did one time....

my wife has been driving since she was about 5 or 6....and we aren't talking about little cars either. Her dad would put a 10 wheel end dump grain truck in first gear, get her moving, and then beat her home to jump in and push on the clutch. All she had to do was steer (and she had been doing that for years on her dad's lap). Rural Idaho....there wasn't a cop for 40 miles, and they were usually on private property anyway.

I got pulled over one time in my golf cart. I was in the McDonalds Drive-Thru when I just turned 15. The cop looked at my permit, and let me go. No ticket, no call to the parents, nothing. McDonalds is about 3 miles away from my house/the course.

I did, twice. Both times were on rural roads. First time was about 2 miles. I had to run home and get something for my mom. Second time my parents were on their way to a hockey game and forgot the tickets. I had to drive ~15 minutes each way to the interstate onramp to meet them and give them the tickets.

I was actually 16 the first time and 17 the second time, but didn't have my license yet (have to be 17 to get license in NJ)
