How Many Of You Drove Illegally?

Driving since I was in like 8th grade in my subdivision. Then about a year before I was 16, I was allowed to make errands in the city. Only could go about 3-4 miles away from the house.

I remember when I first sat in the car with my driving instructor, it was me first for half an hour, and then this other kid. After I was done, he smugly said, "I get the feeling you've been doing this for awhile..." I just shrugged.

When the other kid was up to drive (while I sat in the back), I was scared shitless.

Would I reccomend it... yeah go ahead. Just be super cautious - but look like you know what you're doing.

My friend & I used to drive a landscaping truck full of yard-care equipment between jobs when I was 15/16 in HS & didn't have my license yet, however my friends father was in charge of the town highway department & his older brother was a police dispatcher so we got away with it despite getting pulled over more then once.

In addition keep in mind that this was nearly 27 years ago when attitudes about stuff like that were much more relaxed then they are today, so OP I strongly suggest you ignore anyone saying to go ahead & drive w/o your license because the potential downside to getting caught and/or hurting somone in an accident (for which you won't be insured) is virtually unlimited.

I learned to drive a standard when I was 14-15 and lived in Alaska. Drove my truck all over Kodiak island, none of the cops ever busted me for no license. They didn't ever seem to bother the military people.

i drove when i was 14 or so on my grandfather's land.

they let me drive a front-end loader tractor to move crap & mow, so i drove his truck a few times. i dont recall driving on the roads before i had my permit.

Started driving at 12, lived in Midland, TX. If we ran out of milk, revved up my dad's '81 Chevy S-10 Tahoe and go down the street to the store.

Yeah, thats probably the best bet. My uncle is Sheriff, and I didn't take that into consideration. He would pull it until I was 30, he's an @ss.</end quote></div>
he's an ass for doing his job and upholding he law? 😕

i don't think you're going to find anyone here who has drove illegally, aka before they've had their license.

I drove before I had my license....it's called a permit😛

I also drove illegally in Ecuador when I was growing up, but I think that's different. I was pretty good at driving on rough roads WAY before I knew anything about city driving.

My Dad used to let me sit on his lap and steer the car when I was quite young.</end quote></div>

Were you conceived in an old Lotus racecar?

Best idea ever. I'm totally going to do this when I have kids.

In rural Wisconsin near my grandparents house my uncle used to let me drive his car on country roads with no traffic. I was about 14 years old at the time. I also drove snowmobiles and boats since a very young age.

Has anybody else been in this situation? What did you do?

Yes by all mean go ahead and drive. Add all your friends in the mixt, peer pressure and we got a receipe for disaster.
Lets just pray that nobody gets killed, injured or ruined as a result. Everybody knows that 15 years old drivers are the best and safest.

Best wishes.

and yes, your dad is an ass for giving you a car.

I am willing to bet that you will be in a accident before the end of the summer, keep us posted.

I drove around in my back yard (2 acre lot) when I was 14 to get a feel for driving.

I've never been in an accident, no fender benders, tickets, points deduction. nothing. Of course I drove a Bronco so a slushy back yard was nothing.. doing it in an SS? not such a bright idea 😛

I did but I left home when I turned 14 and it was kinda a must to be able to work so I drove for 4 yrs till I was 18 and took the tests.

I'm 21 and I still don't drive or have any desire too. Even if I had to go somewhere everyday, I wouldn't drive or use public transportation. Family and friends can chauffeur me around 😛

No, I only steered the car at that age, sitting beside the driver.

I had to wait till I was 21 to drive. Driving age should be 18, IMO.

steered the car from the passenger's seat when i was like 13/14. learned how to drive when i was maybe 14 or 15. had driven like 20+ cars before i got my driver's license. 'twas fun times. 😀

Uh not me. The only law I've broken was the transporting passengers in the first 6 months. I only did so like a handful of times as I didn't drive too much until I was closer to 17.

There's nothing wrong with driving early (legally), but if you need to do so illegally, screw it. There's a lot you think you know when you're 16 and you start driving, but trust me, it's not that easy. Even when I was 18 I thought that after 2 years of driving (at least 1.5 of it was constant daily driving) that I knew most things. Yet I was scared as hell driving in SF. Seriously, don't screw around with driving before you really know your stuff plus do so legally.

Have you started construction of the padded room you're going to raise your children in, or is the risk of STDs too much for you to attempt to have kids? 😉
I don't plan to have kids. 😛
I know that they take a lot of time, energy, and attention, which I just don't feel like providing, hence the decision not to have them.

As I understand it, risk of STDs can be well-established with a simple blood test.
So there! 😛

I'll keep you posted.

I drove on country roads with my grandfather near his farm, but never in town. So perhaps it was technically illegal, but there's no law enforcement out there anyway 😀

I practiced in a parking lot at 15 before my permit. Looking back it was pretty stupid - cops could've easily checked us.

And although not illegal, the day we passed our written test (can drive to school and driver's ed), we had driver's ed class... our teacher asked us if our parents gave us a vehicle that day to use - we said yes... he shook his head in disgust. Looking back (once again), I agree with him. Experience is very important... plus driving with kids our own age is recipe for disaster... ask any teen.
